Indian expressions
An evident Indian vocabulary threads across the 2,000 sq ft area of the home, where each space reinterprets the traditional snippets of the Indian geography — like the cave paintings that once narrated stories, the Warli murals hand-painted in terracotta at the entrance, set against a dark wooden door, offer a familiar glimpse into the family’s world painted by Khushboo Biyani.
Wildlife takes form in the living room through flamingos, their pink silhouettes alongside blush mid-century armchairs. A teal paisley sofa and handcrafted furniture echo the hues of changing landscapes while the kitchen is stamped in mustard yellow, evoking a sunset view. In tandem, the dining area, framed by a floor-to-ceiling walnut library, becomes a setting for conversations around books and crafts. “The husband’s wildlife photography becomes a monumental artwork within the living space, while the wife’s paintings and creative expressions are woven through the home,” the duo explains.
The master bedroom tempers warm timber and teal accents against an earthy palette, while the kids’ rooms develop their own chromatic identities. The son’s bedroom plays with complementary pairs: red, tangerine and green set against one another to feel kinetic. The daughter’s room is dressed in deep ocean-blue tones, animated by a framed LEGO artwork.
The guest room draws from the density of a forest, its deep bottle-green walls set against woven rattan and botanical motifs. The bathrooms, too, extend the material and colour vocabulary of their respective rooms. A cinematic den wrapped in oxblood red recalls the theatrical interiors of old Hindi cinema and their association with the colour. “This is not nostalgia — it is a confident, contemporary celebration of Indian making,” assert Prashant and Anu, along with Akshata from the design team at ZERO9.
