Parade into this home in Gurugram that is not far from the regality that Indian palaces demand. Sreya Seth, Founder of her namesake firm Sreya Seth Design brought to life a realm of hues and patterns in this 6,000 sq ft home.

Being a rented apartment, the space came with its own set of challenges. The designer had to work within the existing layout to create a home that would exude everyday luxury, while keeping in mind the homeowners’ wishlist of canopied beds, abundant shelving and the use of vibrant tones. With Sreya’s design sensibilities and ability to pair colours and patterns with finesse, the space becomes a personalised statement of beguiling visual influences.

A dreamy kaleidoscope

With a flooring pattern that alludes to a palatial setting, it was an easy decision to draw inspiration from that aesthetic. The living room displays pieces that shine bright in their jewel-inspired tones. The sofas pay homage to the hues of emeralds and rubies, while the carpet dives deep into the tones of sapphires.

Since structural changes were out of the question, the walls were accented using a plethora of wallpapers that are reminiscent of English gardens and opulent chinoiserie motifs.

In the living room banana trees and flowering branches provide lighter tones to the otherwise rich colours. An open space, the dining room is framed by a cobalt blue wallpaper. Juxtaposed among the romantic Indian language, plush pink chairs lighten the space. The bedrooms too echo this theme – romantic motifs with pops of Indian whimsy. Be it the bejewelled horse wallpaper or the pared back master bedroom.

Restrained yet unbounded

The team at Sreya Seth Design didn’t hold themselves back – they took their over-the-top theme to every element of the home. “In spite of the already heavy dose of bold and characteristic features, we went full steam ahead into exploring further patterns, motifs and graphics. We layered florals with geometric shapes and ikats with stripes,” explains Sreya. In order to balance the dramatic visual elements, most walls have been left bare, to allow all other features to shine through.

This home is a testament to the power of design in transforming even the most challenging spaces into havens of luxury and style. The team’s eye for detail and fearless approach to mixing patterns and colours have resulted in a home that feels like a palace, despite its “rented” status. From the grandeur of the living room to the intimacy of the bedrooms, every corner tells tales of elegance, proving that with the right vision, any space can be elevated to extraordinary heights.
