The summer of stripes

Freedom Tree’s Summer 2025 Edit “Promise of Good Design” is a summery delight with stripes galore!

As we battle what is predicted to be the hottest summer in a long time, we need all the dopamine we can get. Luckily, Freedom Tree gets the memo. Their Summer ‘25 collection, promisingly titled “Promise of Good Design” is rich in colour, character and narrative. And the cherry on top? Stripes!

Lo and behold, a series of textiles with stripes of varying widths and colours emerged. The moodboard? Messy meadows. Summer fields painted over in varying shades of the sun. First captured in brushstrokes and then woven to life, these creations are inspired by the brand’s effervescent legacy — where both the design process and product spark joy.

Freedom Tree’s interpretation of these simplistic forms is a dopamine-hued affair. These vibrant creations mark the brand’s 15-year anniversary in a flurry of colours.

From a line to a stripe

The birth of these textiles, in a twist of events, does not occur on a digital screen. The end result is crafted from recycled yarn commonly available in a limited colourway. Designers then play mix and match with the handpicked hues, painting them in long, meditative brushstrokes painted atop a fabric. From electric teals paired with their peachier counterparts to verdant greens, the colour yardages are warped, weft and woven with almost mathematical precision.

Linear sources of inspiration

There’s a lot riding on a line — a fact any designer or architect would agree with. The genesis of an idea lies in the first initial lines. They’re the first marks we ever made in an elementary classroom in our notebooks, the first marks an artisan makes or weaves as well. An easily distinguishable mark of urban societies, they surround us. They’re everywhere. Add colours to the mix, and they take on a life of their own.

Freedom Tree’s interpretation of these simplistic forms is a dopamine-hued affair. Envision an ice-cold cassata ice cream’s curving lines or the swoop of a rainbow captured, pulled straight and overlaid atop your furniture. These vibrant creations mark the brand’s 15-year anniversary in a flurry of colours. Stripe on stripe, colour atop colour come together to create textiles that can be layered, brightening up a room with their sheer presence.
