Encompassing a plethora of artistic elements, the Bajaj Residence is home to a lovely family whose keen desire to curate a collection of art has been thoughtfully brought to life by Gaurav Panjwani and Santosh Belani, creators and co-founders of Studio GSA Architects Pvt Ltd.

Located in the Central Business District (CBD) of Bengaluru, just off MG Road, adjacent to the Ulsoor Lake, this 7000 sq ft address is styled by Samir Wadekar. Perched on the 11th floor of a building, Bajaj Residence entails a muted colour palette, accentuated by warm wooden work and stone cladding. These tones envelop almost all the areas in the house and form a gripping backdrop for the art to be reflected in a conspicuous manner.

To ensure that each area in the abode manifests a distinct character, Panjwani and Belani executed specific structural changes that proved significant to the final look and feel of the home.

He explains, “We had to plan for a couple of additional spaces such as a pooja and study, which were not a part of the original plan. The existing plan involved an enclosed family space that created a long and redundant corridor.” The designers opened up the family room, which made for a crafty way to add a study and pooja enclosed by sliding glass panels, allowing those zones to seamlessly be a part of the family space when required.

One of the highlights of this breezy home is that it overlooks the Ulsoor Lake, which naturally brings as well as evidently add depth to the landscape of the rooms. In this residence, the personal lobby is where one witnesses the most absorbing views of the Lake.

To elevate the otherwise endless beauty of this area, Panjwani installed a swing, making the place more inviting for the family to indulge in a relaxing, soulful time.

The designer duo’s meticulous attention to detail defines dextrous design philosophy. The custom charcoal panelled double door leading to the entry foyer, which is embellished by a pair of arched mirrors, earthy decor pieces and marble flooring wraps the residence with a modern luxe mood that lingers on.

To the right of the foyer are the living and dining areas flanked by sliding glass screens that can either enclose the space to its own or open it to merge it into the family space. Further, to enhance the sharp richness of the living space, a small bar area has been carved in the middle of the living and dining zone. The backdrop of the bar has a stone cladding that doubles as a storage and display wall.

Moving ahead, a long balcony runs along the length of the living and dining area, where one can have a nice cuppa whilst enjoying the view of the adjacent lake. Every area in this residence has a juxtaposition of textures which is Panjwani’s signature style. Be it the leather sofa against the stone wall in the living room, the antique mirrors against the fluted wooden panel in the foyer or the cane against the texture paint in the bedroom.

Although the entire colour palette of the home is mellow and subtle, the contrast has been brought about in an interesting manner. The four bedrooms in this residence—the primary bedroom, the son’s bedroom and the other two bedrooms, comprise such soft-hued decor elements and furniture that it effortlessly communicates a blissful balance.

Talking about the sustainable features incorporated in this residence, Panjwani says, “We believe in maximising natural resources available at the site. In this case, we have tried our best to optimally use the natural light available here by opening up spaces and using glass screens to define the zones. Some elements that came with the apartment have been retained, refurbished and reused.”
