In 1997, Milan based architect Antonio Citterio designed the Charles seating system, paying tribute to ’50s and ’60s design. The name “Charles” comes from Charles Eames, a renowned American designer from the mid 1900s. Its sleek form and small details like the inverted L-shaded aluminium feet make the simple sofa a timeless piece.
This year, B&B Italia launched the seater in two new limited edition coverings: Orange/red and grey/blue, shades that Charles Eames identified with in the ’60s. This anniversary special editions were launched in an installation designed by the Milan based Migliore+Servetto Architects at Milan Design Week 2017. The background of the installation featured images of historic milestones from the last twenty years – events, objects, scientific and technological discoveries, to show how Charles has remained timeless through the years.
After being displayed at Milan Design Week, the installation will be the core of B&B Italia’s presentation at B&B Italia Store in New York for the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), and in the coming months it will be the protagonist in the windows of B&B Italia Stores worldwide.
