IKEA and Miheeka Daggubati bring Stockholm to Hyderabad

Take an exclusive peek into IKEA’s Hyderabad store where the iconic Stockholm collection revives a modern Indian home setting imagined by Miheeka Daggubati

The new-age Indian homeowner is changing, and so are their homes. In the sea of decisions between trinkets of utility and the act of collectibles, the bigger question our homes ask is — which objects deserve a permanent place in our everyday spaces and can utility be performative? IKEA may have found an answer. Cue, the iconic Stockholm collection and its arrival in India (finally!). In a new collaboration with Miheeka Daggubati, IKEA brings a palatable gathering of its furniture and decorative pieces from the collection to Hyderabad, which in fact, is also the brand’s first store in the country that opened back in 2018.

This became a befitting playground for Miheeka to mix, match and experiment her take on interiors at the store to stage a layered, tactile yet contemporary living and dining room setting that lives comfortably between the two sensibilities of Scandinavian craftsmanship and Hyderabad’s way of hosting. Jasmeet Sood, Country Home Furnishing and Retail Design Manager, tells us, “Miheeka brings a deeply intuitive understanding of what makes a home feel personal and meaningful. Her design sensibility reflects the same philosophy we believe in at IKEA, creating spaces that are not only beautiful, but truly functional and comfortable to live in. Hyderabad has always held a special place in IKEA India’s journey, and it felt like the perfect city to bring this collaboration to life.”

Scandinavian crafts meet Indian homes

The Swedish brand that seems to be a household name of the many design-forward homes in the world first launched the Stockholm collection in 1984. Now over forty years later, IKEA’s most eclectic and sensorially rich edit inspired by the visual colours and elements of Sweden’s capital city seeps into the living canvas of Indian homes — think furniture, soft furnishings, lighting, tableware and accessories that reveal how right materiality, crafts techniques and thoughtful design can change the ways we experience our daily routines at home. Drawing from Hyderabad’s grand habits of hosting soirees, the STOCKHOLM collection emphasises that our social occasions and experiences are detouring back to home and curating it artfully should be personally intentional. Mindful accumulation of collectible-worthy furniture and accent pieces, thus, becomes more meaningful.

ELLE DECOR India’s visit to Hyderabad revealed…

The IKEA Hyderabad store unravelled interesting design clues. At the centre of the living area perched a warm amber-toned STOCKHOLM sofa; plush, snug and perhaps made to just sink into its velvet-esque embrace. The setting felt reminiscent of a fleeting cinematic scene right after sundown, washed in the glow of chandeliers and floor lamps. Around it, textures replaced ornamentation in the form of rugs, a natural wood coffee table, fabrics and a sleek shelving unit styled with books, objects and art frames.

At its most functional best, the living area overlooked the dining spot. The central exhibit remained the oval birch dining table, assembled as a well-proportioned piece made for sit-down meals and moments of sharing. Paired with it were dark bentwood chairs that evoked a sinuous play on shapes. But what’s a space without a little colour? And so, against a terracotta-hued wall, stood a pair of vivid green cabinets, lamps, a round mirror as well as an oak veneer glass-door display cabinet that let glassware and collected curios to shimmer subtly beneath the room’s mood lighting.

As Miheeka explains, “This room was designed as a reflection of how we live today, homes that feel warm, intentional, and easy to grow with over time. I was especially drawn to the STOCKHOLM collection because of its timeless quality and honest use of materials.” She adds, “Every piece feels elegant yet approachable, which is something I truly connect with in design. That’s where IKEA and I come together in the belief that a home isn’t just styled, it’s lived in.”

The room set will be on display at IKEA Hyderabad. Featured products from the STOCKHOLM collection and across IKEA’s range will be available in-store and online on IKEA India.
