Maison&Objet 2024: The best trends and collectibles from Paris Design Week’s 30th edition

The city of Paris evokes a multitude of emotions. Glittering clues of luxury. Remnants of history. And above all, it is a monolith of the eternal spirit of art, design and culture. With Maison&Objet, the renowned design fair, all of this and more takes the centre stage. With ELLE DECOR India, peruse through the latest trends, collaborations, collectibles and extraordinary exhibits from the 30th edition of the Paris Design Week.

MAZHARIA

Drawing inspiration from the intense Majorelle Blue discovered in Jacques Majorelle’s renowned garden in Marrakech, Mazharia applied the pigment to their collection of terracotta vases blending traditional and contemporary silhouettes.

UTOPIA & UTILITY

The Zambia stacking vessels (top) are the culmination of a collaboration with refugee women residing in United Nations camps in Zambia. Each vessel can be taken apart into a glass vase and a woven basket. The Tribe collection (bottom) is a collection of art vases that combine glass with handwoven rattan and feather work.

SIEGER GERMANY

Bringing stories of distant lands on a plate (and other tableware) is Paraíso Blue by Sieger Germany. It narrates tales of nature with blue-grey motifs illustrating tropical plants, birds and animals. Crafted in porcelain, each piece bears two framing lines.

SILK-KA

Because there’s no such thing as too many flowers! Titled It’s a Family Affair, Silk-Ka’s faux flowers draw from two seasons and warm colours. The collection features 500 new products in sync with fashion colours and interior décor trends.

IBRIDE

Collaborating with Florence Bourel, Ibride presents a coffee table trio titled Parodia Magnifica inspired by cacti. The outdoor collection puts nature at the centre of its creation and celebrates the unique forms and textures found in the desert landscape.

SEVA HOME 

Seva Home, an Indian brand renowned for its soy wax candles, beautifully exemplifies how scents evoke nostalgia. Its set of six soy wax candles Ode to India represents a diverse city from the colourful country, each drastically disparate from the other.

MARCELA CURE

Inspired by the alluring female physique, the Corporea collection by Marcela Cure comprises 10 unique pieces — bookends, bowls and sculptures that are crafted to capture the grace and elegance of the female silhouette. The collection celebrates the timeless beauty of the human body in a succinct and visually compelling manner. The Le Mani Bowl pays homage to the timeless beauty of human gestures, transforming them into a compelling art form. Meanwhile, the La Bocca Bowl draws inspiration from the sensuality of the female lips, influenced by a mask acquired by Marcela during her visit to Venice years ago.

YUKIKO KITAHARA

Descending from a lineage of sushi chefs in Tokyo, Yukiko Kitahara crafts tableware from white porcelain with functional, artistic and decorative elements that express gratitude and respect to mother nature. White porcelain becomes her canvas, seeking the essential under the ethos Teinei na seikatsu — to live carefully. This philosophy beckons a balanced pause, cultivating moments of harmony and inner connection amidst the pieces that grace the table.

ATMOSPHÈRE D’AILLEURS

With an eye trained to seek out the extraordinary, Thierry Grundman is an antique furniture dealer who curates a collection of rare and unusual treasures. He seeks out furniture that has acquired an ethereal beauty through the gentle weathering of time. It celebrates the timelessness that these aged masterworks have attained, allowing their elegance to grace modern spaces with an air of nostalgia.

PULPO

Embodying bold ambient illumination, the Boule series by pulpo features table, short and tall floor lamps crafted with handmade stone bases. A collaboration with Sebastian Herkner, marble elevates Boule’s allure, lending an opulent, modern touch to interior spaces bathed in its refracted radiance.

FERNANDO OTERO

The Beeds armchair by Fernando Otero injects a burst of colour with upholstery that is crafted with recycled glass beads. With its ergonomic design and plush cushioning, it promises a cosy and fun seating experience, all while making a bold style statement.

TAKUMI TOKYO

The Chitose pendant lights by Takumi Tokyo is a lamp crafted using Hosokawa (handmade paper) which is moisture resistant. The wooden shaft, crafted using wood lathe technology from Hida Takayama, paired with brass accents, adds a striking touch to its design.

PIETRE TROVANTI

Utilising artisan processes and sustainability, Pietre Trovanti is inspired by asymmetrical rocks that are discarded commonly. To the right, perched against the wall is Upsidedown by EDIDA India winner Saif Faisal, a sculptural composition with exchangeable top and bottom.

GIOBAGNARA

The club sofa with fringes from the Glenn Sestig collection is a playful spin on the traditional demeanour of the sofa. Available in printed calfskin deer and nabuk, the colour grey paired with fringes make for a pleasant paradox of their personalities.

As 2024 ushers in the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac, the porcelain dragon celebrates a revered creature in ancient Oriental culture. A symbol of power, energy, honour and prosperity, the dragon represents a year of transformation, growth and abundance.

Seemingly delicate but sturdy, the fibre concrete Bloom Big Bone White Vases is that quiet understated statement piece with a commanding presence.
