Tall trees lean towards the centre, peering at a bright yellow fountain. Leaves take advantage of the sun and decide to play with shadows amongst themselves. A white macrame swing sways as a soft breeze wafts past. As you close your eyes, you can almost picture yourself by clear blue waters that reflect every detail of the sky above. With a bohemian theme that reminisces the Mediterranean Avokadocrafted by Studiio Dangg, invites you to escape the Delhi hubbub and take a break in its tropical aesthetic on a Sunday evening.

Nested in the Qutub Institutional Area, a locality in South Delhi that is home to à la mode bars and lounges, the quaint cafe decides to break the pattern and guise as a tropical getaway. “Avokado is tactfully planned around trees scattered within the complex to veritably catalyse a transcendent outdoor experience. It was planned and designed to go against the grain of the context it sits in and acts as an oasis for a relaxing retreat for all,” reveals Studio Dangg. As plush couches sit together basking under the hot Delhi sun, the seating areas glide in a curve gracefully, a contrast to the tight layout of restaurants around the cafe.

A potluck, if you may

Diverse elements come together to make a decor potluck and bring a Bohemian theme to the cafe. India brings its bamboo and thatch roofing with a trendy backsplash of natural materials while the Greek city of Mykonos lends its patterned basalt flooring.

As cane lamps recall traditional Indian cane handicrafts, the yellow fountain in the centre gives you a Goan welcome. Macrame is scattered across the cafe, adding playfulness to the aesthetic and making the perfect place for some sun-kissed pictures. Although distinct, these elements come together effortlessly.

The mix of cultures isn’t limited to decor. The restaurant makes a (literal) potluck of multicultural cuisines to cater to healthy and unhealthy cravings. From multigrain wraps, paninis, soups to burgers, pastas, Arabian platters, and quick bites, Avokado serves everything. And, of course, it also offers a variety of delicacies made with its namesake avocado!

Under the floating lanterns

There is a certain nonchalance in the way the cafe presents itself – almost as if it were relaxing as well. However, the cafe isn’t cluttered. The furniture arranges itself with minimal linearity, bringing a Nordic element to the otherwise evident tropical backsplash. White macrame morphs into soft furnishings and partners with handloom jute rugs to decorate the cafe under yellow lights that look like floating lanterns. Studiio Dangg balances the materiality of the space with a neutral palette. Linen curtains veil the tables for privacy.

Just when you think you have explored Avokado’s soft interiors, it surprises you by turning into a Bohemian bar at sundown!
