Iconic coming-of-age movies and stunning teenager bedrooms go hand-in-hand. What wouldn’t we give to be like Ayesha and Sid from Wake Up Sid, splashing paint on the walls and stringing lights to create a sanctuary of our own? Practically a teenage-hood rite of passage, your room is both a haven for self-expression and a safe space you can return to, time and time again. If the gazillion ideas on Pinterest have you stumped, here are 10 teenage bedroom design ideas the teens and young adults in your life would adore.
Earthy paradise
If you adore the classics, this beige sanctuary may just prove to be the perfect muse. Earthy nature-inspired hues enlivened by pops of colour make this space by Beetle Design Studio the perfect oasis in the bustle of Mumbai. Rukhsar and Saiqa Shaikh have designed the master bedroom with playful tones of green, teak and turquoise. Emerges an inviting abode, ideal for moments of relaxation.
Layers of tradition
Do you adore desicore and often find yourself binging on old Bollywood movies? Get ready to fall in love with this room by Ground Zero. It’s all about having a blast with Indian-inspired textures. Think stunning embroidered accents that bring the drama, plus rattan wood on the headboard and the furniture. The master bedroom is the ultimate cosy spot where rattan and wood join forces for a serene space full of character. It’s bohemian yet minimal, celebrating India’s rich cultural roots with a modern spin.
Polar opposites
Divided by aesthetics, united by colour. Two bedrooms with polar opposite features await within a Mumbai home by Maneka Thapar Designs. A striking pair of yellow eyes stare out of a black canvas on the wall of the son’s bedroom. A houndstooth patterned bed occupies pride of place, with blue ceiling-to-wall panelling decorating one side. Neutrals enlivened by an array of blues define the space.
On the flip side, the daughter’s bedroom is what fairytale dreams are made of. Art Deco-inspired elements reign supreme within the space, the ceiling painted a soft mint green hue. Mouldings painted gold adorn the edges, the metallic hue lining the upholstered bed headboard. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling, adding to the space’s regality. A bedroom fit for modern royalty, indeed!
Sorbet pink
This apartment by Spacedays Architecture & Design resembles something straight out of Legally Blonde — pink, fabulous and cosy! With soothing pastels and texture aplenty, the room has a penchant for organic forms and arches. Rishik and Amit Shukla have eliminated sharp corners, opting for fluid lines and gentle curves that rank high on style and low on the possibility of stubbing a toe! This design choice makes the space feel more inviting and less rigid, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
It’s vintage!
Welcome to a dreamy mint oasis, brought to life by Tejal Mathur Design. The space hinges between the old and the new, with a sculptural grey bed and ivory-hued accents. With bespoke furniture and natural antique finishes, this stylish sanctuary is playful yet timeless. And that stunning tartan plaid wallpaper behind the bed? It’s the cherry on top, giving the room just the right amount of character. If you’re dreaming of a vintage sanctuary, this mint haven is a must-have for your Pinterest boards!
Pretty in pastels
Like the sun dipping into the sea, a mustard-hued headboard stands out amid this blue bedroom in a Mumbai home by Twila Design Studio. Textured wallpaper, classic furniture and light-hued wood round off the colour and material palette. Whilst the space appears serene, pops of colour enliven the room with a touch of whimsy. The canopy bed is certainly the showstopper, resurfacing our childhood wish to own one again!
In another bedroom, the blues give way to make space for a muted pink. A strawberries-and-cream combination of stripes line the wall, while a white poster bed occupies the centre. Rose gold scone lights further add to the space’s pastel environs, adhering to the monochromatic theme.
Utilitarian chic
Ample storage is a holy grail within any bedroom. With shelves curving against the wall and a plush folding bed, a bedroom by Alkesh Gangwal and Associates within a home in Pune ranks high on practicality. Natural cane rattan lines the abode, accompanied by earthy accents and lush greens. The multipurpose shelves are ideal for both displaying decorative objects and propping up necessities within arm’s reach.
Clean lines
“During initial discussions with the clients, it became clear that our design aspirations aligned with their desire for a modern, clean and vibrant space,” state Anna Rose and Anoop Bhat, co-founding partners at mamama. The space in question is a minimalist family apartment nestling in Mumbai. The son’s bedroom adheres to the brief faithfully, the white walls devoid of any excessive adornments sans a poster and a few framed artworks. Accent furniture pieces in vibrant colours decorate the space. The ultramarine blue headboard moonlights as a floating ledge suitable for propping up curios, with ombre drapes lining the windows. Mirrors affixed to the wardrobe hide the storage space in plain sight.
Duochrome stripes
With the return of Y2K, bold stripes are all set to make a splash once again. Embody the 2000s with a black and white rendition as seen in this striking room. Iesha and Dhaval Parekh of TaP Design Inc. and FADD Studio have crafted a duochromatic paradise sprinkled with playful patterns and statement decor pieces. A quintessentially modern space, nestling amid a home that celebrates India’s rich culture. Soak in this truly stylish sanctuary unafraid of making a statement.
Whimsical wonderland
Scallop-like edges climb up the walls in a room within a Pune home by Ketaki Poonawala Designs. These whimsical arches protrude from the wall, sharing halves with a wallpaper depicting bursts of flora and fauna. Curving edges are a common design leitmotif within the space — a playful nod to the space’s strong commitment to fun. The colour palette of blues and white aligns with the home’s overarching design language, aptly named Vaayu. True to its name, the sight of this room comes as a breath of fresh air indeed.
