We are living in an era where the objects and spaces around us are waking up. Contemporary design has shifted toward creating dynamic, interconnected experiences to a design philosophy that weaves together futuristic technology, natural ecosystems, and human psychology into a single canvas. As part of Istituto Marangoni Milano Design’s 2026 exhibition programme, titled Design Awakens, Indian students emerged among the standout talents applauded for their innovative projects across product, furniture and interior design disciplines. As the most influential global design event, it was an opportunity to showcase their creativity on one of the industry’s biggest stages. Leading international brand collaborations with Alessi, Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, L’Astro, Jaipur Rugs, RivAtelier and the Italian Institute of Technology, the design students were prompted to conjure ways of designing for the future.

From Mumbai to Milan

Among the wave of emerging talents in the Master’s programme in Product and Furniture Design, Arihant Kothari and Vaishnavi Chavan gained recognition for their remarkable work across the Milano Design school. With a distinction, Avi Arora was applauded for his work in the Master’s in Interior Design. In the undergraduate category, Caahiil C. Menezes was distinguished as the best student in the Bachelor of Product Design programme.

With a strong creative foundation in India’s Istituto Marangoni Mumbai, for many of these students, the journey to Milano Design Week began closer to home before they explored their horizons at the institution’s campuses in Milan and other European cities. This gradual journey unlocks global opportunities, real-world industry insights and brings fresh, modern perspectives to the international stage. This is not just a mere reflection of talent and effort, but an epitome of global learning and international exposure that helps to shape one into a designer of today and the future. Beginning at Istituto Marangoni’s Via Cerva campus, visitors experienced a series of exhibitions ranging from innovative interior design concepts and luxury hospitality projects to experimental furniture and immersive installations. The achievements were a part of Milan’s most iconic design destinations during Design Week.
