Alloy marks a new chapter for three studios

Five founders unite their experience across architecture, interiors, hospitality and retail under Alloy

What happens when three established design practices decide to work as one? In Alloy’s case, the answer begins with five founders. Rupesh Shah, Bhavisha Thakur, Chintan Patel, Bijal Shah and Bhumika Patel have spent years shaping spaces across residences, hospitality, retail, commercial and large-scale developments.

Previously operating as three distinct design practices — The Ink Studio Co., Limited Edition Design Studio and BT Desiign — the studios have built extensive portfolios across India, Australia and the USA. But the next move was to bring their individual expertise together. And on 18 July 2026, Alloy was officially born.

Despite launching Alloy as a unified practice, the founders are anything but newcomers to the industry. They have completed over 1,100 projects, giving the practice a breadth of experience across architecture, interiors, product design and different scales of design. “Every founder contributes a distinct perspective, yet every project is shaped collectively,” they affirm.

The idea of bringing different practices together also plays out in the studio itself. To house this new practice, an 80-year-old bungalow in Mumbai was reimagined as a multidisciplinary design studio. The bungalow came with its own history and character. The way the bungalow was remodelled shows how Alloy approaches design, combining global perspectives with a focus on its classic architecture, materials and craftsmanship.

The name Alloy speaks to the idea of bringing distinct elements together to create something stronger. The studio’s unveiling, titled The Making of Alloy, was designed like an introduction to the practice. Key decision-makers from brands and vendors were invited to move through the bungalow’s storied rooms, where a series of storyboards and installations charted the making of Alloy.

The experience unfolded across six chapters: The Founders, A Name Worth Building, The Convergence of Alloy, Years Before Alloy, Before & After: The Studio Transformation and The Team. The chapters moved between the people behind the practice, the histories of the three practices and the transformation of the bungalow into the new studio. With completed projects across India, Australia, USA and upcoming developments in Dubai, Alloy plans to expand across India and internationally.
