Some homes are open to interpretations when it is about pinning it to a certain design style. But this home hums a ballad of charm, warmth and sheer personality. Perched in Lokhandwala, Mumbai’s scenic back road with a breathtaking view of the mangroves, this 2,300 sq ft duplex isn’t just another pretty space — it’s an expression of its homeowners. Brought to life by Ve7design Architecture & Interior Design, artistry, comfort and vastu-compliance were non-negotiables, and the result? A perfect mix of timeless allure and modern flair where every corner has a story to tell.

"We have found a beautiful balance between staying true to a core design aesthetic while still allowing room for experimentation and personal touches." — Bhoomika and Shivani, Architects Ve7Design

Step into a dreamscape

The living room instantly envelops you in warmth — rich wooden floors, neutral-hued walls and handcrafted ceramic art setting the stage. The undeniable showstopper? A striking natural stone fireplace crowned with a wooden mantle. Through grand arched doorways the dining area reveals itself — a perfect mix of a stately wooden table, cane chairs and the pièce de résistance: a breathtaking jhula that radiates old-world glamour. Right next to it a custom hardwood bar proudly displays the homeowner’s impeccably curated liquor collection. The Puja Ghar — a sanctuary of serenity — dazzles with Thikari art — delicate mirror inlays forming vibrant floral patterns, elevating the essence of Rajasthani culture.

The open kitchen is an amalgamation of modern and classic — where a sleek marble breakfast counter gleams against understated grey PU-finished cabinetry. And then there’s the staircase — an architectural masterpiece with teak balustrades and walls adorned with textured ceramic art proving that functionality can be just as striking as aesthetics. Bhoomika and Shivani add, “We have found a beautiful balance between staying true to a core design aesthetic while still allowing room for experimentation and personal touches.”

Upstairs, a bold black-and-white checkered floor sets the stage for a den that’s equal parts cosy and stylish. A buttery leather chesterfield sofa meets a deep green bookshelf — moody, refined and effortlessly chic. Floor-to-ceiling teakwood sliding windows blur the lines between indoors and outdoors letting sunlight gently flood the room. The master bedroom is a vision of grandeur with a regal four-poster wooden bed and a luxe leather headboard stealing the spotlight. An arched wooden-framed doorway leads to a walk-in closet that is compact yet dripping in elegance. The en-suite bathroom is an earthy retreat where a solid wood basin counter, river stone-carved wash basin and textured granite walls bring raw organic beauty indoors. The guest bedroom leans into minimalist sophistication — naturally dyed veneer and cane wardrobe shutters keep things light while a handpicked wooden log headboard adds a touch of rustic artistry. Its en-suite bathroom is a sunlit sanctuary crowned by a sculpted-on-site stone wash basin that makes a quiet yet striking statement.

Arches, neutral and greens!

This home is Modern Classical done right — blending warmth and quiet luxury. A neutral palette sets the stage punctuated with visual colour breaks such as greens and greys. The natural material palette and neutral colours provide a sense of serenity, creating a soothing homely atmosphere. Materials like teakwood, dholpur stone and Italian marble ensure that graceful grandeur is woven into every inch of the space. The arches bring a sense of elegance and continuity tying the space together with their classic appeal, while raw materials like natural stone, wood and marble layer in depth and intrigue.

“We enjoyed designing the den the most and that was challenging at the same time to meet all the vastu requirements without disturbing the aesthetics of the space. The solid wood door that also acts as a window along with the solid wooden sliding folding window is our all time favourite,” say Bhoomika and Shivani.

While the design speaks a distinct language, this home is anything but predictable — every detail feels bespoke, layered and full of character. The homeowner’s artistic background and carefully collected treasures infuse personality into every nook, making it feel layered, lived-in and loved.
