For eclectic homes splashed with Indian crafts—Royale Play Taana Baana wall textures set the tone for the festive season

For eclectic homes splashed with Indian crafts—Royale Play Taana Baana wall textures set the tone for the festive season

A home witnesses the birth of countless journeys, stories, ideas and emotions. On occasions as special as our favourite festivals, it is only natural to swathe every corner of the home with elements that feel personal, tell a story of essence and look phenomenal at every glance. This festive season, to lend an unmissable, arresting appeal to the walls of your home, Asian Paints Royale Play brings to the fore a unique collection of exquisite wall textures—Taana Baana.

Inspired by the glorious heritage of Indian crafts and weaves, Taana Baana is a work of art that will invoke a sea of emotions and memories, wrapped up in enchanting colour and texture play to adorn your home.

From the quintessential charpais and the omnipresent wicker baskets we keep fruits and flowers in, to grandma’s priceless ikkat saree and the bandhej dupatta in a bride’s trousseau, Taana Baana draws inspiration from precious crafts to adorn our walls and lives.

Taana Baana translates to warp and weft, which refers to the orientation of any woven fabric. It is what forms the basic components of weaving, turning thread to yarn, yarn to fabric, and fabric to lifestyles. The new collection presents a selection of 8 elegant wall textures that are a tribute to the crafts and art forms passed on through generations of skilled artisans.

Be it age-old traditions or contemporary homes, Taana Baana finishes are novel, imbued with artsy, cultural hints that aptly represent all parts of India. The wall textures come in multiple shade combinations in metallic and non-metallic variants. The sheer multitude of the range makes it an ideal pick to introduce a personal touch with a modern outlook to living spaces.

Each wall texture is seeded in a striking concept, derived from a dextrous native craft that was popularised either by a state or a group of craftsmen. The ‘Charpai’ wall texture illustrates the criss-cross weave of the restful woven charpoys seen widely across homes in North India. The ‘Palm Weave’ wall texture takes hints from the chevron weaves of the giant palm leaves along the Indian states of Goa and Kerala.

The ‘Bandhej’ wall texture is inspired by its namesake ancient tie-dye form, still prevalent and in vogue today, originating from the lands of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The ‘Basket’ texture delineates the states in the northeast known for their distinctive, meticulously twisted and woven cane and bamboo handicrafts. The ‘Madras Checks’ wall texture preserves the essence of the timeless plaid weave, a staple in the Southern states of India.

The threadlike texture and inherent asymmetry of the ‘Ikkat’ wall texture remarkably outlines the beauty of the loom native to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Orissa. The ‘Pompom’ wall texture, dives into the warm aesthetics of the cool northern states of Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Like the uninhibited spirit of the silkworm, the ‘Tussar’ wall texture flows effortlessly to splash an abundance of luminosity and depth to large walls. It beautifully captures the luxury and awe-inspiring character of the Tussar silk produced in the Eastern states of Bihar and Jharkhand.

#EDWOWFind: Bisazza’s latest Ranunculus and Calystegia collections
Since the Mesopotamia time, mosaics have been used to spaces to add colour, texture and patterns. But when surfaces giant Bisazza teams with a renowned Dutch creative, the result is a fresh take on conventional surfaces. We are referring to designer Kiki Van Eijk’s maiden collaboration with the Italian cutting edge brand for two decorative mosaic collections called Ranunculus and Calystegia.
Neo-romantic and feminine, the Calystegia series illustrate two floral decorations in glass mosaic, made in the traditional artistic technique upon a digitally-created background and a range of patterns are reflected on the Wood collection in pre-finished parquet embellished with laser-engraved decorative elements. “The inspiration for this family of designs lies in my personal environment, the area where I live. I live in a natural protected environment between the fields, flowers and weeds,” Kiki reveals. This new tile collection by Kiki and Joost’s for Bisazza was unveiled at Maison & Object 2016.

#NewCollectionAlert: Asian Paints launches The Earth Series for exterior walls

#NewCollectionAlert: Asian Paints launches The Earth Series for exterior walls
To maximise the self-expressive potential that exteriors can offer, Asian Paints has introduced The Earth Series from Apex Ultima Wall Art. A groundbreaking line, it allows you to customise one of four concepts – Tree of Life, Prayer for Earth, Walk in the Woods and Flow – in terms of colours and size. An interplay of art and flora and fauna forms, the designs are etched by artisans on the walls.
In meaning and form, Flow is open to diverse interpretation that is inspired by the drift of water. You can choose from two distinct expressions either reminiscent of watercolours or defined outlines, visualised to suit a range of building styles. Prayer for Earth combines the shape of pebbles, their colours and the symbols of life that can be engraved/screen printed on it. Depending on the form of your building and the symbols you connect personally with, you can play with different combinations of the three elements to arrive at an arrangement that’s just right.
Deriving from the form of a wild mushroom and footprints that burst with life, Walk in the Woods is a contemplative piece. We are mesmerised by the Tree of Life design. Accentuating the sinews and natural lines of the tree, this variation has a raw, artistic feel juxtaposed with the antlers of a lone deer that displays various animals on its horns.

Top 3 swoon-worthy settings with Black Crow Studios wallpapers

Top 3 swoon-worthy settings with Black Crow Studios wallpapers
Incorporating vibrant colours in your home can be a taxing task. But it doesn’t have to be. The easiest yet exemplary way of satisfying your colour quotient need is by adding a unique wallpaper. Case in point: Black Crow Studios, the Los Angeles based wall coverings brand that is now available in India.
Available through interior designers Rushda Hakim and Rishita Das co-founders of Mumbai-based interiors firm, Design Office, Black Crow Studios’ surface coverings give a fresh new avatar to conventional wallpapers. “Being designers, we always felt a dearth of affordable, modern abstract art in India. When we came across Black Crow Studios, we knew that the brand’s designs were something that would instantly appeal to people. The wall coverings are a sight for sore eyes,” says Rushda and Rishita.
With designs that are either a traditional wall paper, or as frameable wall art, the offerings are a perfect choice to balance a space with bright bursts that isn’t overwhelming. Here, we have zeroed down three home settings with the Watercolor Collection from the brand to create a whimsical yet sophisticated area.
Monochromatic magic: In the first look, a black and white wallpaper embraces a neutral hued room for a look that is in equal doses, simple and elegant. This setting makes for a perfect living room setup.
Plum perfect: The second setting adopts a contemporary aesthetic by coating the walls with the watercolour effect covering in a deep plum shade. This look is a good option for a home-office.
Multicoloured magnificence: The third look enchants with the bright yellow, subdued peach and lagoon green shaded wall surface. An easily achievable setup, it is ideal for dining areas.
