This all-white paradise in Lahore will inspire you

Pakistani architect Attiq Ahmed went on to design Nobel laureate V.S. Naipaul’s home with his firm AEDL, after winning the EDIDA Young Talent award in 2014. He gives us a peek into one of his recent projects, a contemporary take on the white aesthetic.Taimur Rafiq took the ground floor of his parent’s huge mansion in Lahore, while his brother, Fahad, took the first floor. With the design brief underlining privacy, AEDL was asked to renovate Taimur’s home, and they made sure the common entrance foyer was the only thing the two brothers shared. “We chose an aesthetic that was eclectic, but hinged on the idea of a white room. All doors were painted white to further amplify the effect of light in the space,” says Attiq.Keeping natural light in mind, Attiq used layers of metal jalis that complemented the existing skylights and large windows. He knocked down walls to create a spacious living room, with a patterned pre-cast concrete tile that added to the monochrome vibe. Outside the living room and bedroom, a wooden deck looks out over tropical plants and guava trees.The entire home features modern furniture from his product design firm, Turning Tables, completing the picture.
