CIRQA by The Busride in Todi Mills weaves the charm of erstwhile Bombay with an evocative twist

AUG 22, 2023 | By Shriti Das

We’re no strangers to The Busride’s rather interesting (unconventional) perspectives — nostalgic, familiar yet futuristic. At CIRQA as the name suggests, their brief entailed recreating a time travel experience that evoked Bombay of yesteryears. But instead of delving into nostalgia of the past, CIRQA’s interpretation goes beyond the confines of time. “We made sure that it’s not a singular concept. We’ve created two starkly different renditions of the city. The lower floor is ornate, with Art Deco influences while the upper space is stripped down to reveal exposed bricks and the structural frameworks,” says Zameer Basrai who co-founded TheBusride Design Studio with Ayaz Basrai.

But his revered pick is the bespoke light fixture above the bar, crafted with five elements that are emblematic of Bombay and Mumbai both. There’s an orb to metaphor the fishing villages, basalt stone represents Colonial architectural histories, the tetrapod is reminiscent of the 60s’ reclamation, and of course the Sea Link is a part of modern history. And then there’s the future, it’s a resin cast that hints at the importance of conserving resources for the days to come!
