A home could well be a creative laboratory for designers to experiment. It’s where the rules bend, creativity soars and new chapters of design are written. This story scripts a new life for a home in Chhattisgarh by Azure Interiors helmed by Rashi Bothra and Ruchi Gehani. A soulful yet regal residence with vintage home decor in Raipur, the interiors interweave classic English elements with modern-day comforts in inky black and white hues.

Titled House of Grace, the home is as poised and elegant as the name, where each detail is an opus of intention. Fundamentally, the 5,000 sq ft abode espouses an open concept floor plan, where architecture itself becomes a silent facilitator of connection and fluidity.

Classic meets contemporary

The grand double doors invite you into a spacious foyer to spot a perceptive art piece of a grand cathedral above a geometric console. The formal living room is an esoteric whisper that compels you to focus on the black and white aesthetics, plush seating arrangement and the sculptural fireplace. Exquisite light fixtures, decadent decor finds and window dressings add another layer of whimsy throughout the space.

“We have tempered the home’s classical grandeur with energetic bursts of eye-catching shapes, clean lines and subtle nuances of English architecture,” Rashi and Ruchi mention. Gradual transitions lace the hallways leading to a special feature in the home, a Gurdwara infused with Lippan art and spiritual significance.

Balancing fancy with functionality

The colour palette of the dining area offers no surprises, yet it masterfully fulfils its role of being cohesive and welcoming. Just beyond the glass doors is the kitchen with a pristine white island and soft mint-green cabinetry, ensuring a sleek, modern look.

Each room with a different design language reflects the owners diverse tastes. “For the family room we wanted something comfortable and fun, while maintaining the home’s overarching theme: contemporary elegance” the founders muse about the decor of the regal vintage inspired home. Moving towards the end of the hall is a well appointed home office with abundant shelving, giving the perfect view of the garden.

Interestingly, the family’s brief worked in absolute synchrony with a firm’s progressive philosophy of celebrating artisanship. Ruchi shares, “The most enjoyable part was designing the master suite, where we created an intimate ambiance with custom made furniture and vintage pieces that speak of bespoke luxury.” An extravagant en-suite walk-in closet with patterned floor, lacquered cabinetry and grand island in the centre, adduces the curves and lines established in the Victorian era.

Passing the sustainability test

House of Grace is integrated with modern design principles and calibrated royal recreations to create a luxurious living environment. However, the founders were also committed to minimising the home’s ecological footprint. Large windows, low-VOC paints, energy-efficient appliances and smart home systems favour sustainability and belongingness throughout the home.
