A lobby flooded with natural light, exuding nothing but pure joy. A space filled with smiles and an odyssey of intricate details from the trophy wall to the bridge. Designed by Atelier Astil, the primary school lobby in Bengaluru goes far beyond aesthetics, it shapes the minds of young children through architecture. An ode to intricate details and minimalism.
“I designed this space imagining myself as a kid, recollecting memories of my own school days. Every curve, every detail is a reflection of what I wished to see and feel as a child.” says founder and principal architect Arpita Sharma. This primary school lobby crafts a space that is not only visually stunning but emotionally resonant—a lobby that could spark joy, curiosity, and a sense of belonging for young minds.
Impact and aspirations
Making your way indoors the first thing that graces you is the natural light basking into the open plan. Alive with energy, yet oozing with a sense of calm. There you catch a glimpse of a double-height trophy wall, angled shelves showcase the school’s achievements. A visual symbol of hard work and the belief that every child has the potential to fill one of those shelves someday. While an array of illuminated slit columns drape the lobby glistening from the slit which offers a quiet embrace, offering a mesmerizing view.
At the heart of the design lies a central bridge, a connection between different blocks of the school. A place where students gather, interact, and grow together. While the reception area features a clad marble back wall a representation of mountains and valleys, letting your mind think of endless possibilities. Last but definitely not the least a trove of seamless curves envelop the furniture! Every element is chosen with care to create a welcoming and nurturing environment for the children.
An everlasting view
“I wanted children to have aspirations as they looked at our trophy wall, feel wonder as they noticed the endless curves, and create memories that they would cherish for life,” says Arpita. It’s a lobby like no other one that fosters growth, connection and joy.
