Picture-perfect parquetry. Marble in hues of the rainbow. Eclectic flooring ideas that could double as wallpaper, and a new take on terrazzo you’ll never tire of!

We Love…
…walking upon a rainbow! This sand-dune-hued home in Mumbai by Mind Manifestation Design embraces arches and whimsy galore — and the flooring follows suit. Five earthy streams of terrazzo spill forth from the staircase, rolling through the living room right out to the terrace. The lepan-finished walls round off this textured visual treat, making a strong case for introducing colour to your floors! Photograph by Saurabh Suryan

HOT STYLE: MARBLE-LOUS

Pros of picking marble’s more colourful variations? It adds character. Cons? The mesmerising veining makes it hard to look away!

SEPIA-TINGED MARBLE

Rather than paring the floors back to let the jewel-toned interiors shine, Arun Shekar and Mohammed Afnan of Humming Tree chose to play into the bold palette at Hotel Irada. The result? A rhythmic, custom-cut marble pattern of warm ochres and deep greens, greeting you underfoot as you walk into the Pune-based hotel!

HOT STYLE: PARQUETRY PARTY

One thing we share in common with Louis XIV? Our love for parquetry! Match with the floors at the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, or opt for these renditions!

MOSAICS OF WOOD

Wooden flooring, but with a rhythmic satisfaction: that’s mosaic parquetry for you! Case in point: watch how this patterned hardwood flooring by Jalaram fits right into this cosy yet minimal space by MuseLAB.

HOT STYLE: DOPAMINE FLOORING

Life’s too short to settle for flooring that’s boring. The solution? Patterns, motifs and colour to inject your space with dopamine!

ART ON THE FLOOR

Fancy some larger-than-life art for your floor? Titled Garden Song, this EDIDA winning creation has been crafted by Farah and Dhaval Shellugar of FADD Studio in collaboration with Bharat Flooring & Tiles. The process involved cutting coloured cement sheets into motifs, laying them down like inlay and filling in the gaps with self-levelling cement — meticulous, but well worth it!
