The atrium at Raffles Lakeshore Udaipur, with its colossal volume sets the tone for the rest of the space

A royal reset

At Raffles Lakeshore Udaipur, the architecture steps back so the lake can hold the foreground

There’s something quite rebellious about a hotel that chooses restraint over spectacle in a city like Udaipur. In a city famed for mirror-work palaces, cinematic rooftops and ornate exuberance, Raffles Lakeshore Udaipur is located on the quiet banks of Udai Sagar Lake. Overlooking the majestic Aravallis, it is a counterpoint to its island sibling (Raffles Udaipur), which opened in mid 2021. Featuring 36 rooms and suites, Raffles Lakeshore draws from Rajasthan’s artisanal traditions: wooden fretwork, delicate frescoes and hand-painted motifs paired with natural stone and pale textiles. There’s a Great Hall with chandeliers and painted ceilings, a rooftop bar with sunset views, and a tea room that reimagines the classic Raffles ritual with Indian elements. The Tea Room offers a more intimate scale, with upholstered seating and views designed for slowing down. The Marble Hall leans into European finish with its polished surfaces and The Belvedere, perched on the rooftop, is where golden hour unfolds with shared plates and horizon views. Measured, composed and entirely sure of its place, Raffles Lakeshore Udaipur lets the details speak.
