Melting pot of monotones

This Mumbai home by Studio Rohini Bagla imagines luxury through neutral colours

A monotone palette is often assumed to be simple. For a young couple however monotones were a given when they set out to create their abode in Mumbai, the city of cacophonies. Entrusting Studio Rohini Bagla, thus materialised a gentle and grounded palette, who envisioned to exhibit grandeur through an oasis of balanced nuances.

Swathed in contemporary aesthetics, the designer pulls off a home centered around beige with refined ease. “The couple desired a modern home with soft transitions and a warm, neutral palette that exuded calm. While they leaned towards a clean, minimal aesthetic, they were also drawn to subtle textures and statement elements that would add depth to the space,” reflects principal designer Rohini Bagla of her eponymous firm.

BESPOKE MANDIRS AND SUSPENDED SHELVES

Walking in through a fluted veneer door, one is immediately acquainted with the texture consistent throughout the home. Artsy lighting adorns the entrance, past which one reaches the cosy living space. In the backdrop of a biophilic textured wall, plush ivory sofas and dynamic furniture are accompanied by curated elements that elevate this comfortable space to contemporary. Moving into the dining space, a sleek black marble dining table catches one’s eye. The thoughtful approach taken throughout the space becomes clear from the bespoke mandir adjacent to the side table, all coming together as one balancing act. The metal hanging adds just the right touch of eclectic to the space.

The master bed was the designer’s space to design, and it’s apparent why. Bathed in beige, from the bedwall to furnishings, are absolutely pleasing to the eye. Continuing to the tale of arches through the home, a modern display suspended display shelf and arched mirror are only some of the curved touches in the room. With the cosiest neutral furnishings, the elegant space is sure to make one want to take a nap.

Who are we (kid)ding, no colour is as fun as yellow. Which is why the playful intermingling of yellow and soft gray in the space manifests a kid’s bedroom that is both functional and fun, whilst also being calming.

LUXURY AT ITS SUBTLE(B)EST

“Subtle luxury is at the core of our philosophy—spaces should feel refined yet deeply personal. The textured walls, in particular, reflect our signature style—elevating everyday spaces with depth and character,” says Rohini. This subtle luxury is inculcated perfectly through the neutral palette, that brings beige to its full potential. Touches of black and yellow in particular spaces, integrates modern fervour within the softer elements.

A tavern of textures, fluted veneers, stone finishes and soft linen cohabitate beautifully. The 3D appearance of the walls contrast with the sharp flooring for a minimal yet layered visual experience. The best word to describe the home is probably, soothing. An adequate blend of soft with dynamic adornments, the home is sure to incite the urge to stay in!
