Once upon a dream, a space was born. It emerged from the depths of imagination, where discussions with the client danced like whispers in the wind, shaping the design of this extraordinary abode. The vision was clear – a sanctuary for a multi-generational family of six, where different generations and design preferences intertwine harmoniously.

Located in Navi Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, this 1,650 sq. ft. apartment in a bustling neighbourhood underwent a remarkable transformation helmed by Bhumika and Chintan Patel of Limited Edition Design Studio.

Through every nook and cranny

As the doors of this enchanted space swing open, a grand entrance foyer unfolds. Intricate marble inlay flooring adorns the path, leading into a world of arched ceiling, mirror reflections, and geometric seating embracing the sight the moment one steps inside.

Inside the living room, grey marble flooring with an overall mellowed colour scheme sets the design tonality while a curved emerald sofa takes the centrestage. Victorian panelling graces the walls, finished in texture, while a black wooden cornice runs along the borders.

To the left of the living room, a simple yet elegant mandir features triangle fluting. On the right, an oblong Michael Angelo Dining table with bronze metal legs commands attention with a black dome-shaped pendant light dangling above, casting a warm glow. Crossing the dining area, to the right of the passage, is a modern kitchen with veneer shutters and a marble platform. On the left, a common bathroom embraces the allure of Michael Angelo marble, complemented by gold Victorian fittings.

Continuing along the passage, a multipurpose room awaits. This versatile space was designed to cater to the family’s love for board games and relaxation, with the potential to transform into a cosy home theatre. Moving forward, the master bedroom reveals itself with a soft curved headboard and a wardrobe finished in veneer completing the serene frame.

On the opposite side of the passage, the son’s room stands proudly on the left. A grand wicker pattern in Iridescence graces the grill, while a black curved headboard commands attention.

Adjacent to the son’s room, the daughter’s room unfolded with its own unique charm. Saint Laurent walls emanate elegance, while the veneer-finished wardrobe adds a touch of sophistication.

A time travel

The theme of this extraordinary abode was Retro Futurism. It represents a contemporary, creative movement, entwining nostalgia and future visions. Levitating shapes and whimsical juxtapositions of abstract geometrics and outlandish zeerust unfolds throughout the space.

When asked about the most enjoyable part of designing this space, the answer was clear – every room brought its own delight. With two siblings sharing rooms, each with their own unique design preferences, the challenge was to merge their desires into a cohesive concept. The daughter’s room beautifully blended the love for black colour and marble with organic shapes and metal. Another challenging aspect was crafting the large-sized metal grill in an iridescent finish, with a wicker weave pattern.

“Our design philosophy is placing the homeowner’s needs, functionality, and preferences first, then paying attention to details and creating a harmonious balance in design while adding personality to the space that would withstand the test of time” says the sibling duo Bhumika and Chintan.
