JUN 8, 2020 | By Sakshi Rai
Asian Paints is known for its annual announcements of the wall coverings as well as decor trends that will reign in the year. The final outcome is a result of months of research, workshops with creatives, discussions and more. For the year 2020, at India Design ID 2020, the brand showcased its Colour of the Year, Wallpaper of the Year as well as the four trends that are sure to create waves. Read on and get acquainted with them…
Colour of the Year 2020: Curiosity
To match the strong desire for knowledge and progression in the country, Asian Paints declared Curiosity, a concentrated, radiant shade of blue as the Colour of the Year 2020.This hue is high on chroma and low on grey value, and is symbolic of the current spirit of growth. It draws inspiration from the energising tone typical of azurite—the copper mineral ore—and urges one to bring out their very best version.
Wallpaper of the Year 2020: Silver Night
Themed around man’s eternal fascination for the moon and its influence on moods, actions and fates is Asian Paint’s Wallpaper of the Year 2020—Silver Night. This dreamy print is part of the Nilaya Luna range in collaboration with Nicobar. It features a playful depiction of a calm midnight scene with a sailing crescent moon accompanied by floating clouds, as seen when gazing from a window. This celestial composition glimpses into a fantasy filled world to inspire awe.
Trend 1: Potent
As the average spending capacity of an individual increases, society sees a shift in the perception of luxury. There’s a growing appreciation for sparsity, differing from scarcity—a prioritisation of undiluted experiences. Rooted in knowledge, Potent represents our switch to partake in fewer but more concentrated activities. The trend features tone on tone patterns, layering and varying saturations to maximise the effect of a single colour.
Trend 2: Blend
Expanding the boundaries of our creative imagination, it is time to fearlessly challenge preconceived notions of form, function and bias. Blend encourages the merging of disparate fields and experiences, and enjoying them as a cumulative whole. It discusses the decline of isolated industries and professions. A concept that’s designed to be an intentional yet harmonious misfit, it is achieved through a seamless mix of colours, textures and styles.
Trend 3: Mystique
Be it for reasons of self actualisation, therapy or simple cosmic curiosity, our desire to explore ancient wisdom has long been prevalent. Mystique presents a visual manifestation of a gradual behavioural shift that moves away from spirituality being solely tied to religions. Instead, it introduces a series of modern beliefs inspired by totems and ancient symbols from varying cultures along with dark, mood lighting, earthy tones and sculptural pieces.
Trend 4: Sonic
The auditory sense presents one with a relatively underestimated path to engage and explore unseen dimensions of our mind. Sonic is an acknowledgement of our constant sound companion through diverse undulating and rhythmic noises patterns. The trend puts together a space using abstract elements paired with muted shades and materials.
