If there’s one thing anyone’s wanted growing up, it is a picture-perfect home. And Darshana Patel of Signa Designs gives us major nostalgia with this compact apartment in Bengaluru that’s casual and chic in equal measure.

With a decluttered, open and boutique living theme in mind, the design of this three bedroom apartment plays with colours and materials like metal and organic cotton. Featuring a breezy pastel palette with a few pops of colour, the boutique eclectic style that uses Mivan framework stays uniform throughout the home.

As we enter the abode, we’re greeted by a bespoke carved wooden mirror on a grey toned wall in the living-cum-dining space and a balcony. A backlit wall cabinet is used in place of a typical TV console to make the space look larger, and nearby is a custom, wall mounted brass curio shelf.

The dining area is tucked into a corner with a quirky, signal red cast iron base table with a statuario finished tabletop and custom woven vinyl back chairs accented with embroidered hoop art on the walls. “Personally, I loved creating the living room. The custom wood stump stool, the in-wall TV cabinet and the brass curio rack adjacent to the bespoke couch—all of which present a wonderful play of colours and materials that blend harmoniously and ensure that the space doesn’t compromise on functionality,” says Patel.

A corridor leads us to the kids’ bedroom that captivates us with its mint green palette and dreamy low twin bed set. A startling red seater breaks the pastel monotony here. Next door, in the guest suite, is a bed with inbuilt storage and its headboard is surrounded by a bookshelf. Vinyl shutter panels make an appearance in this room on the wardrobe.

The pastel colour palette discontinues in the master chamber with a commanding denim blue scene. The room features open side tables to keep the space airy. In entirety, the home visualises Patel’s practice of “adaptive design”. She says, “For me, it is important to understand the client requirements, likes, dislikes and design cues, and then interpret it using my design aesthetics. My ability to custom create the furniture in my own factory is my signature style. Every single fixture and loose furniture for this project including the metalwork has been custom made, allowing me the opportunity to curate and realise the project exactly as it was envisaged.”
