Nexion’s architecture of surfaces

At Milano Design Week 2026, Nexion unveiled lustrous, structured ceramic surfaces

What makes the surfaces indelible? Is it the texture that can be traced with the fingertips, the reflection when light hits it, or the illusion that the material itself is shifting as one moves past it? At Milano Design Week 2026, Nexion approaches these questions through an immersive spatial narrative titled Architextures. Nexion Texture Atelier. The installation functioned not merely as a conventional product showcase, but as stepping inside the Nexion atelier; method, research, structure and material innovation.

Crafting surface design

The incredible experience begins with a room dedicated to Nexion’s enduring structured surfaces, built on structure, incision, awards and market credibility. Here, texture is not presented as adornment; it is framed as a design discipline itself within the installation, one shaped through method, research, structure and material innovation. Collections such as 3D Textures, recipient of the Red Dot Design Award, and Ombre, honoured with the iF Design award, trace the brand’s evolution through engraved reliefs, shifting shadows and tactile depth.

At the centre of the space, an interactive lighting installation demonstrates how dramatically a surface can transform when perspective changes. Grooves sharpen, shadows deepen, and textures begin to behave almost architecturally. The room acts less like a gallery and more like a material archive, revealing the methods and structures that established Nexion’s reputation within the design world.

Silk becomes ceramic

The second room introduces an entirely new chapter. Inspired by the irregular weave, stitching and dichotomy of Shantung silk, Nexion’s latest preview collection reimagines ceramic through an iridescent surface developed in collaboration with SICER. The finish reacts dynamically to light, producing subtle shifts in colour, shimmer and luminosity that continuously alter the surface’s appearance.

Instead of unveiling the collection through large architectural slabs, fragments are displayed inside precious showcases like collectable objects, allowing visitors to focus on the materiality, the interplay between structure and reflective surface, the softness of through ceramic and the almost jewel-like quality of the finish.

The evolution of materiality

What makes Architextures. Nexion Texture Atelier is particularly compelling in its progression from credibility to experimentation. The installation does not simply introduce a new aesthetic; it expands the possibilities of what ceramics can communicate within interiors. Through structure, iridescence, and light-reactive finishes, Nexion positions surfaces as active contributors to atmosphere. For luxury residences, hospitality spaces and premium retail environments, this shift opens a new creative domain, where materials do more than occupy space; they respond, shimmer, and evolve with changing light. At Milano Design Week 2026, Nexion’s atelier ultimately becomes a statement about the future of surfaces; immersive, tactile and alive with dimension.
