Minimalism gets a new address

Spoorthi Shetty Designs creates a home in Pune that celebrates simplicity and natural textures

This wasn’t going to be just another sterile, monotonous minimalist home, oh no. This home had a story to tell, and it was going to tell it loudly. From the get-go, the vision was clear — no soulless white boxes, no echo chambers of concrete and glass. This space was going to breathe. It would whisper memories and wrap you in warmth from the moment you walked in.

Built to perfection by Spoorthi Shetty of Spoorthi Shetty Designs and stretching over a vast 10,000 sq ft, is a home in Pune, Maharashtra that blends natural materials, sophisticated finishes and the kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a space that’s been waiting for you all along.

"There was a clear vision: minimalistic, with as much natural material as possible. They wanted the space to feel warm, subtle and effortlessly luxurious" — Spoorthi Shetty

The magic of minimalism

As you step through the door, there’s an immediate sense of space. Light floods every corner, the clean lines create room to breathe and the palette? Simply divine. Soft whites and beiges pair effortlessly with deep charcoal tones while rich natural wood adds that perfect touch of warmth. Every piece of furniture, every material, seems to have its own story told quietly but with just enough flair to leave an impression.

The beauty of this design? It’s never loud, but it’s always alive. Matte finishes, black metal accents and white stone add an understated edge to this minimalistic masterpiece. And then you look up. Because the drama continues to soar to new heights. A double-height expanse rises like a cathedral of light and shadow, where walls stretch unapologetically skyward and the ceiling becomes part of the story. It’s more of a quiet showstopper, the kind that sets the tone for everything else. Natural light floods in from tall windows, bouncing off earthy walls and polished floors creating an ever-changing canvas of light and shadow. A floating chandelier brings focus without stealing the scene, while layered textures keep things grounded.

Every corner is a chapter

The rooms in this house aren’t just places to be but spaces to experience. Take the master bedroom, for example. The carefully chosen materials, a blend of natural wood and soft linens create an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a personal sanctuary. Add in that cosy study nook by the window, and you have the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee, your favourite book or the view that feels like it could be straight out of a design magazine. Spoorthi says, “The vision was clear — minimalistic, with as much natural material as possible.” She further adds, “They wanted the space to feel warm, subtle and effortlessly luxurious.”

The showstoppers

But it’s the walk-in closet that steals the show. This isn’t just your average storage space. It’s a haven where you can not only organise your clothes but treat them as part of the room’s aesthetic. The pièce de résistance of this home is undoubtedly the terrace. A space that effortlessly blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living, it’s both an oasis and an entertainer’s dream. Lush greenery cascades around the space inviting relaxation, while cosy seating areas offer the perfect spot for everything from quiet reflection to lively conversations. And tucked into a corner a bed beckons you to unwind, taking in the stars, the breeze and the sheer beauty of it all.

As you move through this home, you realise that true luxury lies not in its grandeur, but in its ability to make you feel at home, at ease and deeply connected to the simple beauty around you. And perhaps that’s the greatest story this home tells — the story of how minimalism, when done with heart, has the power to transform a house into a sanctuary that feels alive.
