A city retreat reimagined

Fine Lines Designers delivers a tactile narrative of subtle contrasts in a Mumbai home

A home that honours nuance, nature and the art of slow living. Built in the sprawling city of Mumbai by Fine Lines Designers Pvt Ltd, every inch of the 2,500 sq ft home carries meaning. From the very first meeting with the homeowners, a shared design language emerged, rooted in warmth, detail and the kind of elegance that doesn’t announce itself but settles over time. The vision was clear: a sanctuary where slow mornings and soft light could take centre stage. Through countless ideas and spirited conversations, the design helmed by Sunil Jasani, Principal Designer, and Kinnari Gandhi, Senior Associate Designer, the home redefines quiet luxury as an element of intention and storytelling.

"The design was inspired by the idea of creating a retreat within the city, a home that evokes warmth and quiet sophistication" – Sunil Jasani

Whispers of stone, gold and Rolex green

Saturated, striking and rich with personality, the Rolex green den forms the backdrop of what is arguably the cosiest corner of the house. Add a wooden rafter ceiling to the mix and just like that, you’re in a luxe alpine hideaway right in the heart of Mumbai.

From here, the gaze is drawn into the open-plan living and dining area where a dramatic stone-clad wall with a faux fireplace anchors the space. It’s not just a focal point. It’s the home’s heartbeat, setting the tone for warm materials, earthy palette and soft gold-speckled textures that follow.

Curated cohesion, room by room

Beyond the shared spaces, the home unravels into private alcoves each one echoing the unique personality of its occupant. The master bedroom, with its walk-in wardrobe and calm earthy palette feels like a grown-up exhale. Wooden accents frame the space while natural light pools in like silk across the floor. As Sunil recalls, “The design was inspired by the idea of creating a retreat within the city — a home that evokes warmth and quiet sophistication.”

The daughter’s bedroom plays with a more youthful sensibility. A custom study nook reflects her academic inclinations while warm textures and soft colours add charm and comfort. The mother’s bedroom rooted in comfort, balances traditional touches with the home’s overall language of softness and modernity. Tucked away near the heart of the home is a mandir nook carved out to appear serenely placed.

Where the blueprint found its soul

Despite the home’s generous proportions, the real design challenge, as Sunil explains, “lay in balancing distinct functional zones with a cohesive visual language.” Ensuring that every space felt connected yet individual required thoughtful planning, precise material choices and careful attention to detail.

What started as a house on paper slowly grew into a place with heartbeat and breath. Laughter in the den that echoes long after midnight. Light spills across the dining table. Built with intention and layered with soul, it’s a space where design and life live peacefully side by side.
