What better way to find peace and serenity after coming home from a busy day marked by the endless chaos of colours than an uncomplicated white canvas that is easy on the eyes? This idea forms the ethos of celebrity couple Ankita Lokhande and Vicky Jain’s home in Mumbai designed by Sejal Shah, Principal Designer, Reflections by Sejal. “We experimented with about 20 different white finishes throughout the house, uniquely combining them as layers,” the designer muses.

Surrounded by unobstructed views of the city, an endless robe of colour white runs across the expansive 5,500 sq ft area of this residence nested atop a tall, upscale edifice. What adds an eye-soothing play to this are various textures and finishes that blend in seamlessly, lending it a free-flowing, artistic feel.

Art comes homes

Each element of the home is customised to the homeowners Vicky Jain and Ankita Lokhande ‘s needs. The wide main door is engraved with the letters AV, the couple’s initials. Upon entering, the first sight is a massive living room encompassing a pool table and a dining area. Curated with a meticulous selection of white furniture and furnishings, the space exudes a refreshing air of calm and tranquillity as daylight filters through the net curtains on the windows.

Yohan Shah’s artwork “If Mark Met James” is a centrepiece that gives the living room an innovative, intriguing and artistic look. Sejal aims to maintain the feature of spaciousness and openness across the home. Feather-light sliding doors that lead from the living rooms into the television rooms can be pushed back to expand the space. “All the carpets are made to order by Mehra Carpets, which are stunning and unique,” reveals Sejal.

Playful touches

A similar atmosphere is maintained in the culinary area, which consists of an island counter and an L-shaped platform with white stone countertops placed over beige wood shelves. The textured beige backsplash creates interest in an otherwise smooth-surfaced space.

Across the passage, a luxurious spa-cum-makeup room takes forth the playfulness of the kitchen, employing bright green and orange colours against a backdrop of textured white walls.

In the lap of luxury, dreaming of white

At the heart of the home lies the all-white master bedroom, with an attached bathroom and walk-in closet. A large king-size bed next to the large windows emphasises comfort and luxury. The walls are adorned with cornices, which offset the extremely modern space and create a homely atmosphere. The other bedrooms are created against a white background and furnished with beige and grey colour palettes.

All bedrooms have attached bathrooms that emphasise luxury living. The master bathroom is done in onyx. To its left is a walk-in closet with mirrored wardrobes and chandeliers that cater to the client’s vision for their home.

Even within the modern and luxurious space, the design retains a natural element through its ubiquitous use of botanicals across the home. On the outdoor deck, the greens are combined with wood flooring and cane lanterns to create an earthy atmosphere.

Sejal uses white to its fullest potential so that the home does not appear plain or uninteresting; instead, she creatively uses a variety of textures and finishes to enhance the beauty of that one colour.
