Marble has long been a favourite muse of the evolving architecture and design eras. While sauntering inside this Bengaluru home dubbed Peter’s Playground, one is enveloped by the marble’s soft embrace with earthy, bare colours, mellow green and blues playing with endless spatiality. Imagined by Gaurav Panjwani and Santosh Belani alongside designer Vibhuti Chellaram of Studio GSA Architects , this is where evoking moods meet a balance between soft and statement.
“The homeowner is a marble vendor and once we moved past functional requirements, this home became a playground for marble in its many glorious forms, each space designed to highlight the stone’s versatility. From fluted marble to lapatro and leather finishes,” reveals Gaurav.

Bold statements and soft subtleties
The entrance unfolds through a textured wooden door leading to a foyer where black inlays on white marble floors assume the limelight, setting a tone that celebrates the sheer tactility of this versatile stone.
Moving through the formal living room, warmth emanates from leather sofas and ceiling panels, skirted by fluted wood. A tucked-away bar with stools revealing intricate Indian motifs invites lingering conversations, while a Pichwai painting anchors a cosy nook with a swivel armchair.

While the openness of the living space spills onto the family and dining areas, the dining area features a marble inlay mimicking a luxurious carpet, adorned with soft detailing that eliminates the need for a rug. Here, a simple caress of curiosity reveals how design and material merge. While each corner, whether the vibrant kitchen with fiery red marble or serene bedrooms adorned with pastel palettes, tells a story of balance.

“The visual language of this space is defined by a sophisticated interplay of materials, textures and patterns that speak to both luxury and warmth, ” explains Gaurav. With the homeowners passion for marble, this material assumes the limelight through varied forms. From the living area with its sleek marble flooring paired with a fluted wooden ceiling to the bar, clad in silver river marble.
