In the heart of Dubai’s Jumeirah Island, lies every minimalist aficionado’s mecca —  Golden Oasis. This 7,500 sqft bespoke bungalow proves true luxury need not be opulent. True luxury is subtle. And in the case of this home in Dubai,  it gently amalgamates minimalism with hints of neo-classical to convey a unique design language.

Built on the shell of a dilapidated property, the transformation of this villa titled Golden Oasis was driven by Sumessh Menon. As a part of the city’s most affluent gated community, this one-storey villa is revamped to have an open layout for an airy, breezy vibe. Deviating from the island’s lavish, uber-contemporary homes, it fashions touches of Indian elements, emerging as an exquisite respite similar to a perfect oasis hidden in the Middle-Eastern desert.

Heavenly haven

Entering Golden Oasis, the foyer greets visitors with gorgeous arched doors and a marble fusion inlay, complimented by brass stainless steel strips, and Bianco marble. The black-and-white colour scheme sets a timeless tone, especially with the dramatic white panda marble staircase. This staircase, with its prominent vein, becomes the home’s centrepiece.

“On the entire Jumeirah Island in Dubai, we wanted this to be the only villa to have an arched door and circular window. So, we had to apply for permissions to be different from the rest and we did manage to get them,” reveals Sumessh.

A lesson in subtle tones

As one ascends the stairs, the villa’s design unfolds seamlessly. The first floor has a terrace that overlooks the gym and continues the textural conversation with a classic black-and-white mosaic. On the floor also lies the master bedroom, adorned in soft tones of mushroom, beige, and white. The master bathroom offers panoramic views of the Jumeirah Islands, making it a fun retreat.

Neo-classical with a twist

Complimenting the villa’s signature neo-classical arches, Menon adds porcelain tiles and pastel hues to bring a fresh, modern vibe. Intricate mosaics in the powder room sourced from India add a touch of exotic flair.

The living room sparkles with a blue glass lighting installation that’s as much a conversation piece as it is functional. The bar area is where things get interesting – with a sculptural grey quartzite counter with metal inserts wrapped around a column. It’s like a chic hideaway for grown-ups. This perfect mix makes the home both elegant and cutting-edge, making it a space that’s as stylish as it is comfortable.
