What happens when memory and modernity meet under the same roof? For Shaentelle Chapman, Principal Designer at Space Styling & Design, the question wasn’t just metaphorical. It was the reality she stepped into the moment she first encountered the 1980s residence, now known as House of the Rising Sun. Tucked into a neighbourhood quietly holding on to its architectural past, the home stood stoically, time-worn yet dignified in structure, but emotionally disconnected from the life it could hold today. What it needed wasn’t simply an update. It needed to be reborn.
The transformation began not with tearing down, but with listening. The design team retained the original structure and preserved its architectural bones with care and reimagined everything else. Outdated walls, closed-off rooms and muted palettes made way for light, flow and expression. At the heart of this reawakening was a hidden gem — a skylight that once sat forgotten, casting light that went unnoticed. Now, it’s the centrepiece of the home, reinterpreted with intention. A custom 20-foot mural rises beneath it, basking in morning sun and washing the interiors in a glow that feels almost sacred. It’s more than a visual focal point. It’s a spiritual one that sets the tone for the rest of the home’s aesthetic rhythm.
