It’s almost like drifting through a timeworn home, each room and its many shelves, intentionally layered with jeweled furniture and decorative pieces. This is Viya’s new store in South Mumbai held within Trafford House, one of the architectural landmarks in the vicinity. With a rested but resplendent sparkle brimming indoors, Viya’s founder Vikram Goyal has created an abundance of his signature brasswork, stone inlay, cane and rope craft and hand-embroidery. A stroll up till the store is equally sensorial; laden with the crisp sounds of dried leaves on the ground, birds chirruping and the sight of two historic schools, whose architecture dates back to the mid 1800s.
On a first glance, the store seems to spill on to different sections, open to peruse yet somehow unrevealed from afar. Extending to a 4,600 sq ft area, the new Viya store instinctively nudges you to touch the crafted pieces and peer into its intricate carvings and details.
