This home is an embodiment of calm — a tidy zone that is a visual delight for those seeking tranquillity, laid out  through its choice of colours and furnishings. Designed by Sonam Jhavar of her eponymous firm, the 1,200 sq ft home  in Mumbai is a step away from the tumultuous city life. “The client emphasised a clutter-free environment, ample natural light, and a colour palette that felt calming yet sophisticated,” says Sonam, Principal Interior Designer of the firm. The inspiration for the home comes from Scandinavian and bohemian designs that amalgamate to present a tranquil yet a stylish setting.

Materials that sooth the home

The inspiration for the home highlights its two main essentials of the homeowners — minimal aesthetic and sophistication. These dualities come together in the form of a clean, minimal aesthetic of Scandinavian interior that balances itself with bold boho elements and the distinct grace of  Scandinavian design. Natural materials, soft textures and a neutral colour palette — soft whites, warm beige and muted earthy tones make the space feel airy and inviting, an escape from the otherwise hectic life one finds in the city as well as one’s own life. The use of cane headboards, rattan pieces automatically become natural statements and a way to to break away from the neutral tone in the bedrooms.

Culmination of calm

Despite its uncluttered nature, the house accommodates distinct elements that give it its cosy feel. Large windows of the home overlook the city and invite natural light into the simple space that coaxes one to be at peace. The weaving patterns in the furnishings draws attention to itself providing intricate details to fill up space while maintaining the clean aesthetic. “Layering woven textures, handcrafted decor and wooden elements added the bohemian charm while the clean lined furniture maintained the Scandinavian simplicity” says Sonam.

The children’s room took into consideration the sense of calm but also the creativity a child should be able to feel. Carrying forward the neutral base,  layers of soft pastels, warm wood tones bring out  playful textures —- keeping the space adaptable.. The home is a testament to how one can find calm in chaos, through colours and textures that fuse together and create a reposeful space.
