A wholesome home act

This Hyderabad home by Phylosophy Design Studio marries subtlety with playful energy

Some homes are built to serve as structural reminders of a legacy, while others stand as physical embodiments of calm, balance, and nostalgia. This palatial 3,000 sq. ft. home in Hyderabad fuses the best of both worlds with its subdued interiors wrapped in soft, neutral tones.

“This renovation for a young family—complete with two energetic boys and their adorable dog—was a departure from our usual designs, but one we loved bringing to life,” reveals Vasundhara Sampath of Phylosophy Design Studio.

MUTED GLORY

Subtly textured walls complement the flooring in the living room, ensuring a seamless flow throughout. A muted gold panel is an understated yet elegant backdrop, adding depth without overwhelming the space. A carefully selected carpet ties the room together, while thoughtfully placed greenery breathes life into this peaceful retreat. Vasundhara, however, pointedly highlights the pièce de résistance—a specially commissioned embroidered wall art, born out of a collaboration between the lady of the house, the design team, and the artisans at Hoozinc. “From conceptualisation to the final stitch, we worked through multiple visits to perfect the colours, stitching techniques, and overall design. The result is a masterpiece that elevates the space, infusing it with a deeply personal touch,” she adds.

In keeping with the overall aesthetic, the dining room seamlessly blends comfort with sophistication. The standout travertine dining table, paired with a matching console from Wriver, exudes a refined yet inviting atmosphere. “To maintain cohesion, the existing dining chairs were reupholstered in leather, enhancing the room’s polished appeal,” says Vasundhara.

PRACTICALITY MEETS PLAYFUL ENERGY

While the elder and younger sons’ rooms serve as stunning lessons in contrast, statement pieces enhance the aesthetic allure of both spaces. The elder son’s room is anchored by the iconic Bubble Bed from Roche Bobois—a statement piece that sets the tone for the space. Done up in sophisticated hues like grey and blue, the room also features functional yet striking pieces like a sleek bookshelf from Wriver and a minimalist writing unit from Colosseum.

The younger child’s room embodies a playful vibe, defined by a myriad of eye-catching decor inclusions—a bold green B&B Italia bed adds vibrancy while maintaining a sophisticated edge, and a whimsical bookshelf injects personality and charm, serving as both a functional storage solution and an artistic feature. Complementing the design, a statement floor lamp and wall art from Mogg enhance the room’s visual appeal.

The master bedroom is thoughtfully divided into two distinct zones—a cosy living space for relaxation and entertainment, and a serene sleeping area. Custom wardrobes on either side act as a sophisticated partition, offering ample storage while maintaining an airy openness. A class act? Indeed!

SPATIAL FORESIGHTEDNESS

The homeowners’ eye for wellness is clearly evidenced in the dedicated wellness nooks, such as the yoga room that exudes tranquillity with its warm wooden flooring, expansive windows that bathe the space in natural light, and a striking wooden ceiling detail. To preserve the serene atmosphere, the TV and storage unit are cleverly concealed behind sliding mirrored shutters, maintaining a clutter-free environment.

As they say, some homes speak to you. This one sings to a rhythmic beat—heard only in moments of calm and discernment.
