Ticket To Morocco In Gurugram

Sorbo by Studiio Dangg reveals an old-worldly Moroccan setting into its architectural interiors

BY

In the era of Netflix and chill, what truly eggs one on to step out of the comfort of their homes and have a nice time elsewhere? Truth be told, it certainly has to be more than just good food. And Studiio Dangg gets this. An exemplar being the interiors of Sorbo — a Moroccan heritage-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar that boasts of warm walls and quiet curves located on Golf Course Road, in Gurgaon.

Sorbo’s architectural weight weaves a thoughtful design narrative across its monumental 5,100 sq ft interiors. One that rises as a refreshing contrast against the city’s skyline. “The ambition was to craft towering vertical volumes rather than expansive horizontal spaces, to resonate with the high-rise urban fabric surrounding it,” Manav Dangg, Principal Architect of the firm recalls.

“The guiding narrative was heritage meets modernity, a sentiment that’s duly reflected in every detail from the materials to lighting, evoking Moroccan nostalgia with a contemporary edge” — Manav Dangg

Meet us at the bar

A vaulted corridor welcomes visitors — slowing building intrigue — leading to the main dining area. Replete with both dining and high-table seating, the swanky resto-cocktail bar seamlessly transforms from a cosy restaurant by day to a high-energy bar by night.

While there’s plenty that catches the discerning eye in this area, the 21-foot-long curved fascia of the bar becomes the centrepiece of the space. Manav notes, “The use of pink transforms the space into a welcoming, sensorial experience. Its soft, grounding quality evokes the romance of Moroccan landscapes, while its modern execution—through clean lines and innovative applications — gives the bar an elevated, cosmopolitan edge.”

Finished in Red Levanto marble, the bar area serves as a nod to the project’s palette. Fused with an interplay of traditional craftsmanship and laid-back retro aesthetic, this is a lively space that feels opulent and progressive.

In pink they trust

A subtle shift in the shades of pink can be seen from the indoors to the staircase, and eventually to the terrace. The stairwell walls are enveloped in the evocative Marrakech Pink, an iconic shade inspired by the historic city of Marrakech — once called El Hamra, or “The Red City.”

This nuanced hue, a blend of blush and terracotta historically derived from local red clay and sandstone, serves as a nod to Moroccan heritage. “Marrakech Pink becomes more than a colour — it is a storytelling device, inviting guests into a space that feels warm, immersive, and timeless,” concludes Manav, who collaborated with Akanksha Sharma, Shreya Gupta, Sinchana T., Lavanya Pant. about a resto-bar that serves as a design playground of diverse elements and textured patterns—bridging nostalgia with warmth, laid-back opulence and modern minimalism.
