There’s magic in the shades of subtlety

Soft curves and organic materials define calm at this Surat home by Co.Lab Design Studio

If there’s anything modern design has taught us, it’s how function and flow can co-exist and — may we say — remarkably well. Inspired by a design philosophy that adheres to Zen principles, the airy interiors of Enso Home nestled in Vesu, Surat is a soothing residential pad, where a generous use of clean lines, curving forms, natural materials and a minimalistic aesthetic serve as robust visuals of this idea.

Sharing that the design process of this home, spanning 4,200 sq ft, was a collaborative journey; Vikram Bhatt, Principal Architect, Co.lab Design Studio, says, “It wasn’t just about creating something visually appealing but about crafting an experience that fosters peace and balance.”

“Central to the design is the Enso circle, a symbol of strength, grace and the beauty found in imperfection, reflected in the soft curves and organic shapes that gently move throughout the space.” — Vikram Bhatt, Co.lab Design Studio

Dynamism meets flow

Predominantly done in a neutral colour palette, the vibes of this home, comprising 4 bedrooms, 1 family room, and 4 bathrooms are cosy, calming and inviting. A subtle yet striking design narrative permeates the space — aligning with the architectural trend of embracing organic forms and fluid layouts, as seen in curved furniture and seamless transitions between areas, through a curvilinear sofa, sculptural dark-toned tables, and textured wall art that set a cosy tone. Sheer curtains filter natural light into the interiors, creating a serene and comfortable atmosphere.

An impressive array of decor elements foster a sense of movement and flow, reflecting the homeowners’ proclivity for dynamic yet functional spaces.

Unlike most homes that require a significant design facelift, “There were no major structural changes made to the layout; the design focused on optimising the existing space while maintaining a seamless flow and functional layout,” he clarifies.

Minimal minus monotony

Stark minimalism often associated with modern design is widely evidenced through the incorporation of tactile materials, warm tones, and layered textures. “Central to the design is the Enso circle, a symbol of strength, grace, and the beauty found in imperfection, reflected in the soft curves and organic shapes that gently move throughout the space,” states Vikram.

In terms of sustainability, while the home doesn’t feature reclaimed materials in its design, a thoughtful and resourceful touch was added to the deck area. “The flooring was crafted using leftover pieces from the site, which helped minimise material waste and highlighted a practical, creative approach to the design process,” he details.

Much like love, the search for a good home ends precisely where comfort, fulfilment and a sense of belonging are found. And one finds exactly that at Enso Home, a serene space punctuated with minimalism.
