Mumbai Gallery WeekendThis is the largest coordinated art event in the city’s yearly calendar! The eighth edition of the Mumbai Gallery Weekend, which starts today, brings together the finest galleries and aims to engage diverse audiences with a host of exhibitions that present the best of art from the diaspora. ‘Recent Life’ by NS Harsha at Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai After a span of 13 years, NS Harsha’s sculptures and paintings are being showcased in a solo exhibition at Chemould Prescott Road in Mumbai. His body of work focuses on “watching human pursuit” from an ever evolving position. From the artist’s point of view, it’s a look at agrarian life and its challenges, using a completely new colour palette when compared to his earlier works. Gothwal’s practice explores lens-based mediums including both stills and moving images. His work revolves around the idea and experience of time and its effects over space and beings. His exhibit focuses on the intention to understand the pace of Mumbai, as a city and how it affects the psyche of human beings. The preview for his exhibit and a special walkthrough with the artist will be held on January 10, 2020.When: January 10-February 8, 2020‘Kintsugi/Bakhya’ at Threshold Art Gallery, DelhiAt Delhi’s Threshold Art Gallery, this exhibition by seven artists will explore the resilience and tenacity of the human spirit to survive against seemingly insurmountable odds. Curated by Tunty Chauhan, the showcase brings two ideologies together—Kintusgi, the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics by enhancing the cracks, and Bakhya, a metaphor for embracing flaws and imperfections present in all human existence. When: January 12–February 28, 2020 ‘The Mirror Sees Best in The Dark’ by Bose Krishnamachari at Emami Arts, Kolkata This solo exhibit by Bose Krishnamachari, after nine years, presents a series of nine new art projects. These materially rich and diverse assemblages and installations explore the co-existence of extremes, the closeness between opposites—ornamental maximalism and abstract minimalism. Krishnamachari investigates the state of ‘obsession’. The lure and pull that an obsession can wield, similar to that of a mirror. A mirror draws you in, entraps you and accumulates your obsessions.When: Ongoing till March 10, 2020‘Building Ruins’ by RISD Show at India Art Fair 2020The Alumni Exhibition’s second edition of the RISD Show 2020 is a curated display of contemporary art and design by the brightest minds from the school. It will kick off at AGENC COLAB in Delhi with a preview of ‘Building Ruins’, curated by Anuj Daga, which offers the possibility of exploring the play between the complete and the incomplete, permanent and impermanent, assembly and dismantling, fragments and wholes or even preservation and decay. It further cautions on the fact that too much building might lead to destruction. When: January 31–February 2, 2020 ‘We Are Still Alive’ by MASH at Gandhi King Memorial Plaza, Delhi Shalini Passi’s MASH foundation is organising ‘We Are Still Alive: Strategies in Surviving the Anthropocene’ at the Gandhi King Memorial Plaza in New Delhi. The group sculptural show, curated by Dr Arshiya Lokhandwala, features works by seven sculptors, who focus on the presenting and addressing the current global climate crisis. It will present timely site-specific topics such as poor air/water quality, congestion, pollution, climate change, water level rises, etc. When: January 20–February 2, 2020
