A Huaca state of mind

XTANT returns to Mallorca: A gathering of crafts and culture returns this May in Spain!

BY

Every May, on the sun-dappled shores of Mallorca, something extraordinary unfolds. XTANT —  the living, breathing homage to the art of craft, to ancestral memory and to the bold beauty of slowness in a sped-up world. Conceived by Kavita Parmar, Cofounder and Creative Director, XTANT is a non profit based in Madrid and Mallorca working to foster excellence in heritage textile crafts and preserve indigenous knowledge by inspiring the next generation through transformational experiences in education and retail using five pillars which are: consciousness, beauty, craftsmanship, time and community. The five-day, invitation-only gathering in Palma de Mallorca takes place from May 9 to 13, 2025 celebrating the soul of craft.

This year’s theme, Huaca, sets the tone for something more profound. In the Quechua language, Huaca means something sacred and spirit-filled. In Mallorca, the entire island becomes one. From master-led workshops and participatory talks, XTANT 2025 is a space to question what we revere, how we create and what it means to preserve culture in a digital age. Here are 5 reasons to be in Mallorca for XTANT.

Crafts of the world

XTANT is a global gathering where threads become stories and hands become instruments of legacy. This is a global love letter to craft, curated with reverence and flair. Picture a Mediterranean spring alive with loom beats, natural dye vats bubbling like alchemy and conversations that stitch together past, present and possible futures. Across five days, the heart of Palma becomes a sanctuary of ancestral skill, artistic excellence, and meaningful exchange.

Meet the masters

XTANT invites 75 master artisans from over 35 countries to share their expertise. From Filipino piña to Uzbek ikat, each workshop is immersive. 13 participants, one maestro and a world of tactile wisdom directly from world-renowned weavers, natural dyers and makers. Each interaction is a lesson in patience, process and presence.

Unravel bold conversations

XTANT’s talks and roundtables explore urgent, often uncomfortable questions around culture, sustainability and ethics. From cultural appropriation to closed-loop systems, indigenous leaders, artists and thinkers gather to reimagine the future as active co-creators.

Talayots, Tapas and Textiles

Mallorca’s rhythm, its siestas, markets and sea-salted air, seeps into every thread. Feast on local food as a ritual, explore ancient Talayots, prehistoric stone watchtowers that stand as silent witnesses to the island’s past ruins and swap stories under lemon trees. Indulge in conversations about the ethics of open-source embroidery while snacking on sobrasada or stumble upon a pop-up poetry reading in a 15th-century patio.

Mallorca is more than a postcard

Beyond the turquoise coves and cobblestone villages, Mallorca holds stories in every stone and sunset. From hilltop monasteries to bustling artisan markets, the island blends slow living with rich cultural texture. Whether you’re wandering through Palma’s Gothic quarters, tasting fresh figs at a Sunday market or watching the sun dip behind a 13th-century monastery, the island invites you to soak up its centuries-deep soul.

In the heart of Mallorca, where the ancient meets the modern, XTANT invites us to weave threads of memory, meaning and mastery. Through the lens of Huaca, this is a living, breathing dialogue between the past and the future.
