Housing maximalism

This Mumbai home, designed by DivineProportion is a chroma-drenched dream

Meet a home that would make Andy Warhol proud! This South Bombay apartment in Lodha World Towers brims with maximalist elements, doused in a gamut of colours. The space has been designed by DivineProportion, with artworks curated by Saga Art, making for a 2,300 sq ft home that becomes a playground for expressive interiors. Founded by Geeta Krishna Nallani in 2012, DivineProportion stands as an icon of design-forward thinking. In this Mumbai home, accented with dark green leather, maximalist wallpaper and statement accessories that alternate between colour blocking and intricate patterns, they create a space that finds a groove of its own. “Each item in this collection is a testament to the synergy of form and function,” shares the Mumbai-based studio.

Spinning the colour wheel

A bustle of colour within this home catches the eye as soon as one walks in. Pops of orange and accent walls of gold come together and set the scene for interiors that exude character. At the same time, reflective of the design firm’s belief that every space should embody a balance of functionality and aesthetics, they ensure a sense of balance flows within the home. Maximalist rooms such as the living and dining are paired with simple panelled wood flooring, expanding the space and allowing the colours to shine unhindered. The art room, filled with quieter, more minimal pieces, sits in a room of white Michelangelo marble, adding further contrast. Colour is used in thoughtful pockets throughout the apartment: whether it be the vibrant patchwork-patterned couch and gold tapestry wallpaper in the master suite, the Versace wallpaper in the study, or the tropical wallpaper in the guest room. Carefully curated, the colourful elements of the home embody both impact and restraint, a tough balance to pull off.

Artful accessories

When styling a home in layers of maximalism, bold pieces that embody character appear as the most charming of them all. DivineProportion, with a design philosophy that stays true to thoughtful space planning, refined material palettes and an understanding of human experience, executes it with aplomb. This space is no exception, wrapped in striking elements that allude to a home put together with care. A leading example is the bar front in the living room, which sits in front of a mirrored wall. The counter serves as an anchor for social movement without appearing cluttered. Other pieces, such as a sculpture of Lord Ganesha that sits in its own nook in the wall with a mosaic of gold as its background, or the collection of hand-picked pieces of art for the gallery that were collected over time, all carry the essence of a home personalised down to the tee.

A home layered in resplendence and flair, this abode strikes a beautiful balance between maximalist elegance and elements that make a house feel like a home, resulting in something truly memorable. DivineProportion proves that practicality can be visually compelling, too — creating spaces that resonate with its inhabitants.
