Soulfully, Bengaluru

Inside this home, Tesor Designs mirrors artistry with accents of minimalism

A deep sense of attachment; in Kannada, they call it Olavu, which is also the name of this home in Bengaluru rooted in modern rhythms of culture. Brimming with the Garden City’s erstwhile charm, the home in the quaint neighbourhood of Malleswaram sprawls an area of 1,800 sq ft envisioned by Tesor Designs. Malleswaram is among the few localities in Bengaluru where every nook truly remains steeped in nostalgia — dotted with traditional tiffin rooms, ancient temples, age-old residences and tree-lined streets.

“This is a home created for true blue Bengalureans. It carries the soul of its settings in a locality where art is in every corner, and an old raintree-cast patterned shadows on the footpaths. This home for clients Triveni, Prakash and Nishith was imagined as an extension of that same quiet rhythm,” shares Supriya Suriyanarayanan, Founder of Tesor Designs, alongside Rajesh Kudlu, Priyanka Kodi, design lead Diya Susan and designer Visha.

A LOT LIKE HOMECOMING…

The decision to own a house in a place that evoked a myriad of memories felt like a natural progression for the homeowners, who resided in their ancestral property in the vicinity all their life. “From the very beginning, our clients had a clear vision for how their home should feel and function. Certain elements were non-negotiable, like the foyer partition. They wanted that gentle sense of privacy as you enter, but without closing the home off completely,” she informs, citing how this partition became the focal architectural gesture that subtly connects the home.

SHADES OF CALM

In the case of the master bedroom, the choice was nature-inspired tones: warm beiges, soft greys, and earthy browns that led to a grounded, restful atmosphere. “The puja unit features a unique embossed marble that adds texture to the overall space. In the guest bedroom, we chose a thread work wallpaper that brings in warmth and subtle detail,” says Supriya.

The striking yet subtle inclusion of a heritage-esque appeal, touches through decor, rugs, and artwork, are all balanced against a minimal, modern backdrop, which feels intentional and in tune with the overall design.
