In the heart of Mumbai’s bustling chaos lies a home that captures the simplicity of desert life. The 2,200 sq ft home ‘The Desert Hues’, as the residents like to call it, whispers with tales of resilient flora and fauna, mirroring the arid landscapes where life unfolds with measured grace. Designed by Ankita Dabrai and Neha Sawhney Chadha of O’Nest Interiors, the sun-drenched palette of ochre and sienna hues pay homage to the vivid sunsets that paint the desert sky. Within these walls, time moves languidly, echoing the unhurried pace of life under the vast expanse.

Minimal opus

Wooden louvres in the foyer conceal secrets within their sand-coloured embrace. Black accents pirouette through art and flooring, leading the way to a fairly lit vestibule  with a poised chandelier, reminiscent of a desert night sky.

Graced by play of earthy shades, rustic vibe and titillating view of the city, is the living room. Journeying further unveils an earthy take in the living room — a veneer-clad TV wall, an ensemble of sand and black chairs and a mellow sofa, all forming a minimal space. The dining area, anchored by a wooden table, resonates with tonal greens and rattan detailing, a subtle hint to the desert’s flora. Behind a sliding wooden partition, a discreet pooja room conceals itself.

Victorian dreams

The master suite, a confluence of herringbone flooring and textured veneer, unfurls a play of burnt rust daybeds and chequered dressing chairs. A sliding partition, akin to the shifting dunes, separates the dressing area with a red chandelier, infusing bursts of colour particular to the sunrise in a desert.

Owing to the petite sizes of the rooms, two rooms were combined to make the Master Suite, where in one room was solely dedicated to the walk-in wardrobe and dressing area. The bedding is from Rearrange Home, light is from Jainson Emporio and Geo Lighting, artefacts from Cotton and Satin and Oma living, artwork from Espravo, and the carpet is from Jaipur Rugs; Photography by Kuber Shah

“We amped up the daughter’s bedroom that was adjacent to the master bedroom by continuing the same muted colour tone but while adding a feminine touch through the details” says Ankita Dabrai and Neha Sawhney Chadha. Daughter’s bedroom brims with character through rope detailing, abstract art and a touch of Victorian grace. O’Nest Interiors, with its mellow hues, finds its signature in the ensuite — a pristine reimagination of Victorian charm infused with modernist sensibilities. Grey walls, beaded black lights and a black poster bed further adds to the mood.
