All bucket lists start with a vacation at the Maldives, and Soneva Jani is the place you’d want your Instagram photos at. Set in the private Medhufaru lagoon within the Noonu Atoll, Soneva Jani is a collection of water villas and island homes, surrounded by beaches and tropical greens. Comprising one island and 24 water villas, with a retractable master bedroom roof and a water slide into the lagoon in each room, this resort is #HolidayGoals.Sonu Shivdasani and his wife Eva built their home on the deserted island of Kunfunadhoo in Maldives two decades ago. Little did they know then, that their intensely personal vision of a locally crafted villa and environmentally responsible lifestyle would form the basis of a successful brand of world-class hotels, resorts and spas.

“When I started working on the villas, I was hoping to make them look ethereal, light and airy and so I decided to create a whitewashed look for all the areas,” says Eva. “I wanted the interiors to set the right design tone; we have used an interesting mix of organic, local and sustainable elements. For example, red river gum shingles from Laos are used for the roof tiles and teak leaves from Thailand for the ceiling.” Eva’s efforts will definitely make you forget those emails, and reconnect with your inner self at this indulgently laidback resort.
