Offering striking views of the Aravallis, RAAS Devigarh in Udaipur is a resplendent property, housed within an 18th century palace-fortress. Last restored two decades ago, the hotel had opened to the public in 1999 with white plaster interiors and a well preserved facade. Recently though, Studio Lotus, which is known to create opulent boutique destinations, was called on by the current owner to craft the new RAAS Devigarh.

One of the first changes made was towards streamlining circulation within the three-storeyed structure. Studio Lotus inserted a contemporary, metallic staircase to rest lightly against the public building without disrupting the overall vocabulary. Creating a sense of arrival for the second level restaurant with two entrances, part of the interior has been converted into a “verandah” that features sandblasted columns, lime green tones and bespoke furniture that add colour and intimacy to the space. A custom designed bar doubles up as a buffet counter with an outdoor restaurant deck.

The tucked away Durbar Hall embodies the richness of sandblasted red and grey stone. The expansive room is now done up with bespoke furnishings and lighting. While the central area mirrors a living room setting, the niches are turned into cosy ‘baithaks’ just beyond a space allotted for performances. Adding to the dash of laid back luxury, the hall also features a wenge wood bar and vintage game tables.

Additionally, the team also upgraded the hospitality experience by enlivening terrace spaces, which have been turned into herb and flower gardens such that guests can get a peek into the organic food produce of the property. Studio Lotus’ vision has been realised and so has RAAS Devigarh’s, with the property providing the guests an absolutely delightful and unforgettable stay.
