Sparkling Affair: Lasvit launches in India

NOV 13, 2015 | By Tasneem Merchant

“We translate stories through glass and light,” says Leon Jakimic, President and Founder of Lasvit, a bespoke lighting solutions company at the launch of their first atelier at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
Founded in 2007, the Czech company completes around 250 projects across the globe annually. Seeing the scope that India provides, Leon feels it’s imperative to have a firm ground in the country. “There is a lot of demand for something based on craftsmanship that is handmade, creative, original and special. In the age of iPhones, software and technology, people appreciate authenticity. That for me is luxury,” he explains.
Their forte lies in combining their base product with all forms of technology – like one of their work in progress projects for the Dubai Design District. The 20×10 mtr kinetic installation will be programmable via an iPhone app and can synchronise with music.
On the home front, the brand has left a mark across several Indian cities. From the Shangri La in Bengaluru and Park Hyatt in Hyderabad to JW Marriott in Mumbai and Hilton Chennai, they have crafted several exquisite pieces in Bohemian glass for these iconic hotels.
Their first atelier in Mumbai which will open soon, will be an experience centre for Bohemian glass. It will house not only their standard collections but also some of their custom designs “so a creative mind can get even more inspired by what they see in this space”.
