Sanctuary of simplicity: This Nagpur home by Hem and Associates balances minimalism with tranquillity

Between light and darkness, deep blacks and soft beige hues and verdant lawns and minimalistic architecture, exists a sanctuary-like home in Nagpur. This striking home designed by Hem and Associates reflects the homeowner’s want for tranquillity, ensuring every corner of the home is imbued with harmonious aesthetics.
The home lies at the cusp of minimalism, whilst realising the needs of a modern family. Envisioned by Principal Architect Prapan Jain, the space exudes simplicity with few harsh edges, clean lines and smooth curves in every aspect of design.
Statement staircases and subtle nuances…
These curves sweep along the expanse of the living room, from the plush beige couch to the abstractly shaped rug and even tiny tables that finish with curved edges. Tones of black, taupe and grey envelop the living room, beginning this tale of contrast.
“At the heart of the home is the curved staircase, an architectural centrepiece that anchors the design. The gentle curve of the staircase creates a dynamic visual element, drawing the eye upward and giving the space a feeling of openness and elegance. The staircase acts as a statement piece, embodying the home’s ethos of refined simplicity,” explains Prapan.
The bedrooms draw from neutrals – the softest pink filling up most corners of the room to a bedroom that’s permeated with interplays of grey. From reading nooks to the most cosy burnt crimson sofa chair, every detail surrounds the space with comfort and serenity.
The colour palette takes from the earth and the material palette builds on this timelessness. Italian marble covers almost every inch of the flooring and natural textures tie the space together. The sun further lights up the open layout space, ensuring that the family lets go of all their stresses outside the doorstep and unwinds in peace.
In the words of the designer, “The house exemplifies the beauty of balanced design, where nothing feels excessive, and everything serves a purpose.”
