Model-turned-architect Saket Sethi takes you into celebrity homes
MAY 11, 2018 | By Delilah Rodrigues
Saket Sethi, the multifaceted founder of Mumbai and Barcelona-based studio Archilogics, dabbles in architecture, interiors and product design. The creative is now the talk show host of the second season of home decor show Design HQ, airing tonight on Fox Life. Tell us about your experience of hosting the second season of Design HQ?We want people to be interested in design, not by pushing the design agenda, but by pushing the people agenda. Our line-up so far is diverse yet thrilling. We have Karan Johar, Dia Mirza, Rajkummar Rao, Diana Penty and more interesting names. I think fashion has had its moment, food has had its moment and design is having a moment now.One home featured on the show that is your favourite and why? When you look at a celebrity or a star, you usually have a one dimensional opinion of them, you know they are an actor and they are getting recognition for it. Dia Mirza’s home is my favourite. What is really interesting about her is that she is an eco-activist and she knows about design, which manifests in the space. For example, the seating in her living area is designed to encourage intimacy, so purposely squeezed together. All her windows are little micro gardens. She’s picked each plant and knows whether they are flowering or attract bees and birds. She also has bird feeders. A celebrity home that is your dream project? This will be a cliched answer, but Angelina Jolie would be an obvious choice because she is such an interesting person. I would want to know how she lives and operates with such a big family. What’s next on the work front? We’re doing all sorts of projects in different spaces. We also have an office in Barcelona now. Our portfolio has alway been mixed and very boutique and that’s how we intend to continue. I had this vision about disseminating knowledge and being part of a larger dialogue about design that gets people passionate and interested in it. Through this show, I am doing my bit here as well.
