Every home has a language, but often the kitchen gets lost in translation. However, interior designer Sonali Purewal seems to have found just the right tone.

For this modern abode inspired by Asian elements, she chose a glossy red Italian kitchen with a white Corian countertop and dotted it with colourful traveller’s collectibles from Hong Kong, Africa and Singapore.

Like Sonali, be unafraid of trying out hues for the cookroom. If painted cabinets are too much for you to digest, opt for a vibrant splashback. Besides, warm colours like red apparently rustle up a healthy appetite.

The good thing about having an all-white countertop – not only does it look and feel hygienic but it also allows you to stir things around with vibrant accessories and appliances without worrying too much about chaos.
