Haute on the table! Deepika Padukone and Pottery Barn launch a collection for those snug home soirees

MAR 22, 2024 | By Pratishtha Rana

“I don’t know if many people know this, but I almost pursued interior design before I became an actor! I have always been extremely passionate about designing.” This confession becomes a triumphant ice-breaker when we sit down with the multihyphenate Deepika Padukone to discuss her all-new design-forward collaboration with Pottery Barn, the all-encompassing home retailer brand by Williams-Sonoma, Inc., with Reliance Brands Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, being its franchise in India.

The collection translates as an ethereal canvas swathed with austere, neutral shades that can as well be meditative. Think rich layers of white on white, sculptural imprints and refined Indian motifs that reimagine the delicate threshold between traditional and novel ways of decorating. An encyclopaedic universe of all things essentials for those languid hours of soirees and regaling with friends and family, Pottery Barn lays out dinnerware, serveware, embroidered cushions, bedding, hand-knotted rugs and decorative accessories.

From the soft grip of your plush bed to your favourite corner on the dining table, every piece in the range, too, asserts its place in the making of those sweet, nostalgic moments in life. What took about 2-3 years in the making with every moodboard detailing, colour combination, curve on the ceramics and dainty stitches on fabrics, Deepika tells us, “This has been a true collaboration. Every piece that’s a part of this collection is something that I have looked at and worked on.”

Careful juxtapositions of traditional techniques intersperse with anodyne colourways that promise a beautiful departure from expected design palettes. “With Ikat, we usually see it on bright colours. But our question was how do you make Ikat slightly more palatable for a global audience? So we used the same prints in slightly subtler colours and even added Ikat prints on candles for that Indian element,” elaborates Deepika, who also promptly defines her personal acumen on design as minimal, experiential and luxurious. Whether it is the textural theatrics and rhythmic embroideries on every object or Deepika’s intuitive take on her design decisions — who becomes the protagonist of this new Pottery Barn collection is interestingly hard to decide.

The Pottery Barn and Deepika Padukone collection will be available in India, the Middle East, and the Philippines. Also to retail online at potterybarn.com and potterybarn.in
