L-R: Curators are encouraged by mentors; The Mumbai Art Room is now a curatorial lab.

Take a trip to South Bombay, and you’ll have colonial buildings, elaborately designed fountains and museums you can wander into. Art inspiration is always just around the corner, and the Mumbai Art Room sits steady in Colaba. Announcing itself as a curatorial lab, the contemporary arts institution will now be nurturing emerging curators and artists.

Their annual benefit in September will launch Dayanita Singh’s book ‘Museum Bhavan’, where the audience will be invited to curate the book themselves. While you take a look around, you’ll also find Subodh Gupta’s limited edition ceramic work. The Mumbai Art Room will then host ‘The Real Taste of India’ with curator-artists Nihaal Faizal and Chinar Shah, its first exhibition as a curatorial lab, on September 27, 2017.
