Do you call yourself an art lover? Then we think it’s time to get off your couch and explore the best showcases your city has to offer. To help you out, we have put together some of the coolest art shows, auctions and new openings taking place in the upcoming months from across cities.
MUMBAI
Observe your city from a new perspective
Intrigued by the daily happenings in a metropolis, Schon Mendes worked on various paintings over the last four years. Featuring a selection of these canvases, the show Cameos of a City displays both individual and collective experiences in the city to emphasise how the absurd can coexist with the ordinary in an urban space.

Reflect on your experiences
A solo show by artist Dhruvi Acharya after eight years, After the Fall uses dark humour to investigate the effects of unfathomable experiences on a person’s mind and body. The paintings are meant to encourage viewers to think about their own emotional encounters.

Explore the terrestrial and the extraterrestrial
Speculations from the Field features the recent work of artist Rohini Devasher whose practice explores art, science and fiction through fieldwork and research in astronomy. The show is curated by Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, and co-curated by Himanshu Kadam. The artist’s field explores terrestrial sites as well as deep space, deep time as the locus of both the human imagination and its extraordinary ambition.

Learn empathy through illustrations
Artist Ashok Hinge displays his observations of humans and their humdrum worries in a series of graphic drawings called Commascapes. The protagonist here is the “comma” who represents the common man.

Stand up against racism rampant in the country
Subjective-documentary photographer Mahesh Shantaram’s The African Portraits is a series of photographs documenting the lives of Africans living in India as a response to the increasing number of horrid racial attacks in the country recently. Through these images he hopes to help people develop trust and feel a sense of comfort with the culture.

Think over the unpredictability of existence
Artist Avijit Dutta’s series of paintings involve a deck of playing cards. His exhibition Life is a Deck of Cards showcases 54 cards, including a joker that represent the randomness of events that occur in an individual’s life span.
