Whether that much-needed shower yields life-saving revelations or simply a whole lot of steam, you can’t argue with the allure of bathrooms designed to perfection. To some, this means a sensuously curved tub with gilded fixtures, while for others it is all about that kitschy mirror thrifted from Bali and more curios sourced from world-bound travels!

Each element that dresses these spaces of rejuvenation can influence how long we spend here pampering ourselves. From unabashed opulence, organic textures and irresistibly glamorous fixtures — ELLE DECOR India reveals 9 bespoke bathroom designs where one only needs to close their eyes in obeisance and surrender to the touch of water…

AWASH IN GRANDEUR

Essentia Environments

Betraying a propensity for nouveau-riche Italian refinement, this sanctuary is laid out in clean lines, pristine marble walls with gold veins and elevated by an eclectic ensemble of fine art. The burgeoning mayhem of a comic book city percolates into thoughtfully curated triptychs, while a streamlined tub under an arboreal light fixture and the timeless stone wash basin evince nature-inspired variations in tonality.

An efficient spatial geometry with well-demarcated zones, a smattering of house-plants and the colossal, panoramic windows inject a redeeming freshness to this bathroom.

DesignCore Studio

Enfolded in the recesses of a 6,500 sq ft penthouse, we discover an operatic blend of the white and gold aesthetic with antique deco flourishes in these Jazz Age bathrooms. Whether it’s the walls of its walk-in closet or the nuanced inlay flooring inside an ensuite, Michaelangelo marble is everywhere, while the beaded chandeliers and ornate vanity mirrors imbue baroque elegance. An interlude of tropical print wallpaper in the powder toilet turns this narrative on its head, exuding an unforgettable mystique.

Aparna Kaushik Design Group

Like a decadent mirage that belongs in Victorian summer chalets, this series of bathrooms raises the bar for regal splendour, with its evocative white onyx walls inherently endowed with sand-dune patterns.

While one of them pays homage to traditional craftsmanship with a stepped, Turkish hammam style tub and a Venetian mirrored console table, another one transports you to the flamboyance of a Comtesse’s private salon with its gloriously vaulted ceiling and the pearly teardrop chandelier.

RUSTIC MEETS ZEN

Nitin Kohli Home

Unplugging memories from yesteryear voyages, these olive green and beige bathrooms in a Delhi residence are beset with rustic materiality and the understated elegance of a Zen garden. The masterstrokes of fluted wood cabinetry, glazed Suzani flooring and the monolithic marble basin are not lost on an astute observer. A rogue jet black console complements hanging paper lamps and interlocked Moroccan tiles with tasteful alacrity.

The Indonesian fibre mat, roughly hewn mirror frame and jute storage hampers weave a sustainable, cross-cultural composite of nostalgia and grounded minimalism.

Design Storie

Inhabited by exotic hornbills and evergreen foliage, this children’s bathroom is an equatorial realm of bright, geometric patterns and a fervent imagination blooming unchecked. A backlit Barrisol ceiling with woodland motifs illuminates the entire space while polygonal orange walls descend towards the floor that is an optical illusion. Incorporating a rain shower fixture only makes the Edenic fantasy more convincing, while a terrazzo sink with its chipped vibrancy and the endearingly egg-shaped mirror tap into our primaeval sense of wonder.

An ethereal jungle book mural teeming with spirituality and watercolour leopards is the most unexpected vision to have while brushing your teeth. But this bohemian wonderland oasis is testament to the restless human spirit that traverses great distances in the pursuit of adventure. A quaint hanging lantern disperses subaqueous radiance upon other fabled elements like the gilt-framed Gothic mirror, the clam shell shaped wash basin and an enigmatic chessboard flooring.

EASY STATEMENTS

Design Work Group

In the mirthful vein of a painter’s studio, these restrooms exhibit an affinity for centrepiece mirrors, floral wall art and sculptural sinks. Perpetuating the rusticity of a backwoods altar, we stumble upon river stones and pebbles in the master bathroom, its feature wall daubed with blossoming water hyacinths. The parents’ attached toilet is a sheer incarnation of classicism with stained glass above the door, cane webbing in the wardrobe shutters and a milky white, recessed wash basin chiselled from onyx stone.

Tapur Chatterji

“Here, we wanted something welcoming, functional and spa-like,” says designer Tapur Chatterji. French-country chic in its approach, log-cabin beams and an arched alcove housing the vanity, this bathroom distils a feeling of sophisticated warmth that you would be hard pressed to find in most boutique hotels. An ostensible languor pervades here, ribbed wall panels and indoor plants enlivening the soporific canvas of veined marble, hints of wooden accents springing up intermittently through the compositional language.

Design Deconstruct

Impeccably furnished, this hedonistic state-of-the-art bathroom does not follow any lineaments of uniform design, choosing instead to leave an indelible mark on your guests. Featuring mirrors with atypical forms that clasp the cornice and almost drip down the distressed walls, we cannot help but admire a curiously arabesque wainscoting in royal blue that ties the mise-en-scene together. The yin-yang marble is eloquently interspersed to create a triangular chequered floor that offsets the textured smoky ceiling with a dignified resolve.

As people’s daily lives have become increasingly hectic, such an insular antechamber where they can leave the world behind, is now being worked into the blueprint of these uber-luxurious households.
